All About Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos’ Daughter Lola Consuelos

Lola Consuelos has “built-in mentors” in her parents, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos.

Ripa and Consuelos have been married for almost 28 years and have three children: Michael, Lola and Joaquin. In August 2020, the longtime couple spoke to PEOPLE about parenting, including raising one daughter among sons.

“I think I had definite ideas about raising girls versus raising boys, even though I don’t really believe in gender stereotypes,” Ripa explained. “My sons are sensitive like my daughter, and my daughter is as strong as my sons.”

As for Consuelos, he said that when she was younger, he had no plans to let Lola out of his sight. However, he changed his tune as she grew up.

“As much as I thought I’d be overprotective when she was born and I held her in my arms, I softened a bit,” he explained. – Because I am really aware of what a good head he has on his shoulders.

While Ripa has had more than two decades to be a mom to Lola and show her her way, she said she’s learned “a lot about being a modern-day woman” from her daughter in return.

“It really gives me hope – her generation really supports each other, the way she and her friends have each other’s backs,” she said. “For all the talk about women helping other women, I see it in her generation in a way I never have before.”

Lola also learned a lot from her parents. During an interview with E! News, shared the best advice she’s gotten from her mom and dad over the years.

“I think it’s always ‘Respect.’ I’ve always seen them stay really true to themselves and authentic, respectful and grounded and work hard,” she said. “That’s the best advice. And that’s not even advice, because I just grew up watching them do that, so I’m really grateful to have them as built-in mentors.”

Ripa and Consuelos welcomed their only daughter, Lola, on June 16, 2001.

Ripa revealed the story behind Lola’s name during a January 2022 episode of the show Living with Kelly and Ryan. She explained that if Lola had had a son instead of a daughter, it would have been Joaquin, whom she eventually gave to her younger brother. Ripa added that Lola’s name was “a surprise to all of us.”

“Lola was supposed to be Sophia, but on the way to the hospital in the taxi, the driver was listening to the radio — a ’70s station — and Barry Manilow’s ‘Copacabana’ was playing,” Ripa recalled.

She continued, “I heard that [lyric], when he said, ‘Her name was Lola,’ and I said to Mark, ‘Lola Consuelos would be a really cool name.’ And he said: ‘If it’s a girl, let’s name her Lola.’ And that was it.”

As the daughter of two celebrities with long-standing careers in Hollywood, Lola and her siblings were no strangers to the limelight as children.

Over the years, Ripa and Consuelos have shared several tidbits, as well as occasionally embarrassing moments, about their children, including on air at Living with Kelly and Mark.

On the September 2023 episode of Ripa’s podcast Let’s talk on camera with Kelly Ripa, she interviewed her daughter and older son. During their conversation, Ripa asked her children if they were “aware” of the media attention they received from the paparazzi when they were younger.

“Yeah, I was very aware of that. And I always tell people that because I say we think you and dad did the best job raising us with that kind of thing because we knew what was going on, but you always told us it was something else “, explained Lola.

She added: “If you picked us up when we were walking home from school, I would say, ‘There are people taking pictures of us.’ And you said: ‘They take pictures of birds.’ ”

She went to New York University

After graduating high school in June 2019, Lola went to college not far from home – New York University. While there, Lola studied music and production, graduating in May 2023.

During an appearance on the channel in September 2019 On Air with Ryan Seacrest, Ripa shared that her “main concern” about her children going to college is that they chose schools close to home.

“College is where you start to establish yourself as an independent person,” Ripa explained. “My main concern was that you don’t know if you should be this close to home because I don’t want you to use the home as if it were your home. I want you to use this as an experience.”

In her book Live wire: long short stories, Ripa recalled an experience where Lola treated the family’s New York residence as her home for a college party while she and Mark were out of town, only to be caught thanks to motion detectors. Instead of driving back into town to end the party, they tried to bombard her phone with messages, but to no avail.

“When that didn’t work, Mark decided that she should be punished by living in said dorm instead of her own for the first year,” Ripa wrote. “I explained to Mark that his idea was just punishing me. My plan, however, was inspired: ‘Let’s change the locks.’ ”

She is a musician

While her older brother started the path to become an actor, writer and director, Lola started another creative career – music.

She released her debut single, “Paranoia Silverlining,” in August 2022. Lola told PEOPLE at the time that she’d been making music since she was 14, but didn’t have “anything that I felt was legitimate enough to write or something that resonated with me.”

“I’m at this point in my life where I really just want to get the ball rolling. I just turned 21. I have a lot of material to write about,” she explained. “As I’ve gotten older, I’ve had a lot more life experience in terms of relationships and friendships. It was a good introduction to the kind of music I like to make and talk about.”

Less than a year later, in July 2023, Lola released her second single, “Divine Timing”. She told PEOPLE at the time that it was a different experience to release her second song, explaining, “I was already nervous about releasing my first single and people hearing my voice for the first time. So it’s really exciting and definitely less nerve-racking.”

The singer also teased that there was more music to come, but she wanted to take her time.

“I try not to rush the process because I have a tendency to release things the same day I make them, which I have to stop doing,” she explained. “I just have to sit back and let it marinate a bit.”

As for whether or not Lola thinks her parents had anything to do with her success, she talked about how having famous parents did — and didn’t — affect her music career during a July 2023 interview. Extra.

“There are times when I can think ‘What are other people going to think about this?’ especially since ‘nepo baby’ has become a huge thing,” explained Lola. “It has nothing to do with the stress I feel and what my parents do, because they are not in the music industry — thank God!”

She moved to London

Lola first spent a semester abroad in London while in college. Afterwards, her parents teased her about having a “weird little inflection” after spending time across the pond with a British boyfriend.

“No, she doesn’t have a British accent at all, she says things like ‘Trashbag,'” Ripa said on Living with Kelly and Mark in September 2023. “She won’t say garbage bag, she says ‘garbage bag.’ She says ‘rubbish’. ‘Take out the trash.’ She’ll say, ‘I’ve got to sort it out.’ He is constantly ‘fixing’ things.”

After her experience, Lola made the move more permanent. In October 2023, Ripa discussed her daughter’s move and opened up about helping her daughter find an apartment in London.

“We were saying that we never had just a mother-daughter trip, just the two of us,” she shared Living with Kelly and Mark about their escape. “It was just us. We had the best time. She’s so much fun.”

She gives her mom fashion advice

In addition to music, Lola is also involved in fashion. Ripa told PEOPLE in September 2022 that she gets fashion advice from her daughter, though not always in the most polite way.

“Don’t wear that. You look ridiculous,” Ripa said, citing her daughter’s candid feedback. “She weirdly says my clothes should be tighter and shorter, which has the opposite effect, because I’m actually making my skirts longer, blousier and bigger.”

Ripa also complimented her daughter’s style, telling Lola: “If I could take your clothes off, I would right now. You have the finest sense of style and you wear everything with confidence.”

He has supportive parents

While Ripa and Consuelos might share embarrassing stories about their daughter from time to time, they also cheer her on.

They encourage her music career in any way they can, including giving her honest feedback. In August 2022, Lola told PEOPLE that her parents “loved” her debut single and wouldn’t “sugar coat anything” about her musical abilities.

“He’ll tell me if it sounds bad!” she said. “When I saw that they had a good reaction and that they liked it, I felt confident.”

Lola also expressed how much she appreciates that her mom and dad have publicly supported her career, especially considering that “the only thing they don’t really know about is music.”

“They really don’t know what they’re talking about when it comes to music,” she said. “So it’s really sweet to see them writing their posts and their little videos here and there. They made a pool music video yesterday!”
