All About Michael Keaton’s Son Sean Douglas

Michael Keaton played a number of notable roles, including Beetlejuice, Birdman and Batman, and won several awards. However, his most prominent role is as a father to his only son, Sean Douglas.

Keaton and his late wife, actress Caroline McWilliams, married in 1982. A year later, they became parents when they had a son. The couple divorced in 1990, and McWilliams died in 2010.

Now grown up, Douglas has also pursued a creative career like his father, albeit in the music industry.

He and his father have different surnames

Keaton’s son uses his father’s original surname, Douglas.

Keaton’s birth name is Michael John Douglas. In order to separate his personal and professional life and to avoid any confusion between him and fellow actor Michael Douglas, he decided to use the stage name Keaton.

He is a songwriter and record producer

Douglas is a Los Angeles-based songwriter with quite an impressive resume.

He started his music career in high school and continued through college — playing in bands and, according to Billboard, a frequent songwriter. As time went on, his band (named The Hatch after a line in a Tenacious D song) began to attract the attention of major labels.

“One of the problems I had in the band was that one morning I’d wake up and want to write a country song — the next morning I’d want to write a rock song,” Douglas told Billboard . – I realized that I can do something different every day.

In 2012, Douglas signed a publishing deal with Warner Chappell Music. Since then, he’s had several hits, including Jason Derulo’s “Talk Dirty” and “Wiggle,” Demi Lovato’s “Heart Attack” and Thomas Rhett’s “Die a Happy Man.”

“I write for Demi [Lovato] or Jason [Derulo] is like having the biggest megaphone in the world – you speak an idea into it, and it comes out as a perfect performance on the other end,” said Douglas The Hollywood Reporter in 2015.

He and his father are best friends

In 2015, Keaton thanked Douglas in his acceptance speech for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy at the Golden Globes, calling him his “best friend”.

“My best friend is kind, intelligent, funny, talented, considerate, considerate,” Keaton said. “Did I say kind? He also happens to be my son, Sean. I love you with all my heart, my friend.”

He is married to his manager

August 30, 2014 Douglas married his longtime girlfriend Rachel Bartov.

The couple met at Washington University in St. Louis and began dating in 2008. (Rachel graduated with a BSBA from Olin Business School in 2005.) Today, Rachel is a talent manager and partner at Range Media, a Diversity.

“When @thisisracheld started managing me, I was adamant about one point of agreement: that all media attention/industry buzz be focused on her main client Sean D,” Douglas wrote in an Instagram post in 2021. “Despite a clear violation which was recorded in today’s glowing press, I’m incredibly proud of my intelligent, beautiful, strong wife and excited for all her future triumphs with @rangemusic @rangemp.”

He graduated in anthropology

Although Douglas’s heart belonged to music, he was determined to do something else.

“I know a lot of people who have a classical music education, and there are good reasons to choose that,” Douglas said Washington Magazine in 2015.

“But I love that I studied anthropology and got this broad liberal arts education,” he continued. “It informs how I think about people and cultures. It gives me reference points that maybe other writers don’t have. I think that’s important when you’re trying to write songs that appeal to a broad spectrum of the population.”

He and his wife have two children together

Sean and his wife have two children: a son named River and a daughter named Maggie.

The couple has been known to post a few photos on Instagram from time to time, including an adorable video of Rivero giggling.

He was nominated for a Grammy Award

Douglas has come a long way since its inception in 2012.

In 2017, Thomas Rhett’s “Die a Happy Man” — co-written by Douglas and Joe Spargur — was nominated for Country Song of the Year.

“I felt really special writing it,” Douglas told The Shotgun Seat. “I felt very personally involved in it. It came out of a conversation: let’s write something for our wives or fiancees, in [co-writer] Joe [Spargur]case. We all have a personal connection to it.”
