For the parents of 10 children, faith and family come before football. Philip was raised a devout Catholic and Tiffany converted before their wedding; the couple is raising their children in the faith. Before retiring from the NFL in 2021, Philip played 16 seasons for the Los Angeles Chargers (formerly San Diego) and one season for the Indianapolis Colts.

In 2019, Philip shared his best parenting tips in a profile with the Chargers: “I think it’s a challenge and I’m by no means perfect at it, nor is anyone, but I think I would always say to other dads try to be present, I think kids want our time , and sometimes much more engaged with them and present.”

Tiffany shared a similar sentiment, explaining how strong their family ties are. “I guess one thing we like to do is talk to our kids a lot so we kind of know where they are and what’s going on in their lives,” she said, adding that Philip is “selfless” as a father.

Here’s everything you need to know about Philip and Tiffany Rivers’ children: Halle, Caroline, Grace, Gunner, Sarah, Peter, Rebecca, Clare, Anna and Andrew.

On July 6, 2002, Philip and Tiffany had their first child, daughter Halle, while they were still students at North Carolina State.

Halle was just a child when Philip was drafted into the NFL. As she explained during her interview with the Chargers, she’s used to the public interest that comes with having a quarterback as a dad.

“He’s been famous since before I was born,” she said. “It was normal my whole life.

Despite Philip’s busy schedule, Halle echoed her mom’s sentiment that her dad was always there growing up.

“He is so selfless,” she said. “He’s an NFL quarterback; he does a million different things every day, but every day he comes home, and he wants to be with us. If he has one more minute to do something else, he’s going to be with us.”

As for her personality, Philip noted how much his oldest child reminded him of his wife.

“She reminds me a lot of my mom, which is a huge compliment,” he said Indianapolis Star 2020 after his departure from LA “The biggest compliment I can possibly give.” The Star he also wrote that Halle enjoys playing tennis and reading.

In 2005, a year after Philip began his professional career with the Chargers, Philip and Tiffany welcomed their second child, Caroline.

Much like Halle mirrors her mother, Philip sees himself in Caroline. He shared with Star that his second child is funny and witty and that they are “a lot alike”.

“Caroline is very strong-willed, and I say that as a huge compliment,” the NFL pro said. “She’s kind of a cheerleader in that sense.”

Caroline also follows in her father’s athletic footsteps, playing both tennis and basketball.

Grace, 17

Grace, born in 2006, was nicknamed Combo by her parents as a child because she is the perfect combination of mom and dad. Like her older sisters, she is a tennis and basketball player.

“Let her go,” Philip said of his daughter, noting that she’s comfortable no matter what she’s doing, whether it’s playing sports in the yard, shopping with her sisters or staying up late with her dad to watch the game.

“Grace is so versatile to me,” said the proud dad, adding that his daughter is already wise beyond her years.

Gunner, 15

In 2008, the couple welcomed their first son, Philip Gunner. Although he goes by his middle name, Gunner is proud to share a nickname with his father.

“It’s a little crazy because we wear his jersey and sometimes people say ‘Hi, Philip Rivers’ because I’m wearing the jersey,” Gunner told the Chargers in 2019. “But they don’t really know that I’m actually Philip Rivers is my middle name.”

At age 5, Gunner was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. “He was starting to get really weak and tired,” Tiffany recalled to PEOPLE. “He had to urinate a lot. He was constantly thirsty. We don’t have diabetes in our family, so I didn’t know it was a symptom at all.”

Philip added: “What we’ve learned through our experience is that these children are warriors. We’ve seen first-hand the huge responsibility these children have to have the discipline to manage their disease with the support of their families and healthcare professionals to live their best lives.”

Despite needing daily injections to control his blood sugar, Gunner’s mother said they’ve adapted to make it part of their daily routine: “He’s really taking it and it’s just become a part of our life.”

No doubt inspired by Gunner, Philip and Tiffany sold customized products through Tiffany’s swimwear brand, Hermoza, to raise money for three different diabetes foundations in 2019.

Philip said Star that Gunner was a true athlete and had an encyclopedic knowledge of all kinds of professional sports. However, he inherited his mother’s temperament when it comes to competition.

“He’s a lot more level-headed than I am,” Philip explained.

After retiring from the NFL, Philip became a high school football coach at St. Michael Catholic at Alabama, and this fall, Gunner will become the team’s starting quarterback.

Sarah, 14

Born in 2010, Sarah is the middle child with four older siblings and four younger siblings. However, as Filip explained Star, no worries about middle child syndrome when it comes to Sarah.

“Sarah has a great personality, she loves to talk,” he said. “She’s chatty, and I mean that in a good way.”

Before the family moved to Indianapolis in 2020, Sarah was the only one of her siblings who had yet to find “her” sport. That summer, however, she started swimming and won first place at the meet.

“That was really big for her, confidence-wise,” Philip said. “We were glad to see she found her thing.”

Peter, 13

Philip and Tiffany’s sixth child, Peter, was born in 2011. Described by his father as an “old soul,” Peter’s hobbies include baseball, golf, hunting and fishing.

And if his older brother Gunner is a running back, Peter is a receiver. “Kind of reminds me of a little receiver,” Philip said.

Rebecca, 11

On October 28, 2013, Philip and Tiffany became parents to seven children when their daughter Rebecca was born, according to San Diego Union-Tribune. Rebecca, nicknamed Becca, is “strong-willed” by nature and reminds her parents of her older sister Caroline.

“Sometimes that trait can be seen as a negative, but I think the strong-willed usually end up doing great things,” Philip told Star.

“They use the term … ‘birthday sisters,'” said Philip s Star in 2020. “They’re enjoying the same birthday right now. I don’t know if it’ll be the same when they’re 12 or 14.”

Anna, 5

The Chargers announced the arrival of the Rivers’ ninth baby on Twitter March 26, 2019

“SHE’S HERE,” the NFL team wrote alongside a picture from The lion king baby Simba being lifted into the air. “Welcome to the world, Anna Rivers.”

Before Anna’s birth, Tiffany told WWD that the arrival of their seventh daughter would fulfill a Rivers family prophecy.

“This is the third generation in Philip’s family, which has seven girls and two boys, so we were pretty excited about that,” she explained. “When we told his 91-year-old grandfather, he said, ‘You didn’t have to go to the doctor to find out. I could have told you — it’s family history.’ ”

Despite being the youngest in the family, Anna already stands out with her lively personality and willingness to keep up with her older sisters. “If he hears the girls open the door to go out, he reaches down and runs after them,” Filip said. Star.

“She’s so bubbly and has such a great personality,” he added. “Her facial expressions, the way she interacts with all her siblings and us, makes us laugh.”

Andrew

Philip and Tiffany welcomed their 10th child, Andrew Joseph Rivers, on October 30, 2023.

“It’s great. Tiffany is great,” the former NFL player told AL.com. “It doesn’t matter if it’s the first child or the tenth child. Every time is a great miracle. Everyone is home now and everyone is fine.”

In July 2023, Philip revealed that the couple were expecting child number 10.

“We’ve had one about every two years, and now this is the longest gap,” he said during an interview with AL.

Philip also told the outlet that the couple initially thought they would remain a family of nine, as both of his parents come from families with nine children.

“We thought we’d be the third generation out of nine, but we decided to go double-digit – or rather me he hasn’t decided. God has decided,” he said.

As for his other children’s reaction to the baby news? “I think what tells the story to us is the reaction of the other kids and how excited they are,” he said. “They’re horny.”
