Bravo’s culinary competition series Top Chef has welcomed a new host to its seasoned lineup – former champion Kristen Kish. The announcement comes after the passing of Padma Lakshmi, who has held the post for an impressive 20 seasons.
“I started my journey with A top chef first as a contestant chef, then as a guest judge and now as a presenter. I’m honored to help continue to build this brand,” said Kristen, 39, in a press release Tuesday.
“I’m happy to sit next to Gail [Simmons] and Tom [Colicchio] when we meet new amazing chefs and see what they’re cooking. It feels like coming home.”
Born in Korea and adopted by a family in Michigan at the age of 4 months, Kristen’s path to stardom was not easy. Before discovering her passion for food, Kristen initially pursued modeling as a teenager. But it was the fascinating culinary world that really captured her heart.
Driven by a passion for starting out, Kristen enrolled at Chicago’s famed Le Cordon Bleu, where she earned an associate’s degree in culinary arts. That was just the beginning of her prolific career, as she became an instructor at Stir, a show kitchen in Boston.
Her extraordinary talent went unnoticed, prompting Stir’s owner, Barbara Lynch, to promote her as a culinary chef.

Despite facing initial setbacks when she was eliminated in episode 11, Kristen’s determination brought her back into the competition after winning 5 straight in the Kitchen of Last Chance. This triumphant comeback helped her win the series, making her the second female winner in Top Chef history.
