Latest news from Allison Jaslow

Allison Jaslow, a leading figure in the veterans movement, has been named the third executive director of America’s Veterans in Iraq and Afghanistan (IAVA), making her the first woman to serve in the role. In addition, she will be the first openly gay veteran to lead the nation’s leading veterans’ organization.

Jaslow, an Iraq War veteran, recently joined the IAVA Board of Directors after serving as the organization’s executive director while Paul Rieckhoff was executive director. He adds more than ten years of high-level experience to the institution. Jaslow will serve as executive director again on March 15, but will be on Capitol Hill this week when IAVA members arrive in the capital to campaign for the post-9/11 generation of veterans.

After a thorough national search, the Board of Directors unanimously selected Jaslow as Executive Director. In addition to his duties as former head of IAVA, Jaslow has also held successful positions as congressional campaign manager, chief of staff to a member of Congress, and political and communications strategist. She is a former officer who received the Bronze Star for her achievements during the war. She is also a member of the Veterans Council of the National Parks Conservation Association and a permanent member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Most recently, she served as an Adjunct Professor of Procedure at Duke’s Sanford School of Public Policy.
