Alyssa Milano Reacts to Claims She Got Shannen Doherty Fired from ‘Charmed’

Alyssa Milano directly addresses claims that she is the reason Shannen Doherty was fired Enchanted.

During a Who’s the boss? at a MegaCon Orlando panel on Friday, the 51-year-old actress said the firing claims — made by former actress Holly Marie Combs on Doherty’s podcast in December 2023 — made her “sad.”

“I’m just going to say I’m sad,” Milano said. “I don’t think I’m really sad about myself or my life or how it does or doesn’t affect my life. I am most sad for the fans. I am most saddened that a show that meant so much to so many people has been tainted by toxicity that continues to this day, almost a quarter of a century later.”

Milano added: “I’m sad that people can’t get past it. I’m sad that we can’t all just celebrate the success of a show that meant so much to us all.”

She described her life around the time Doherty, 52, was fired from the show in 2001 as “difficult”.

“I’ve worked very hard in my life, for the last 25 years, to heal all my traumas,” Milano said, noting that the process involved healing more traumas than just “the trauma I experienced on set. [the show].”

The Insatiable star said she intends to be a “healed person who helps heal people” and added that she wishes Combs, 50, and Doherty could sit on stage with her to discuss any lingering issues.

Milano said she has already apologized for the role she played in what happened on Enchanted set up, so he doesn’t know “how to fix it differently”.

“I don’t even know if I could expose myself more than I already have to try to fix it,” she said, calling the situation “heartbreaking” and “uncomfortable.”

She concluded by apologizing Enchanted fans “who love us anyway”, saying that their love is healing for her.

Milano then addressed the situation between her, Doherty and Combs in an Instagram post on Saturday.

“I don’t know of any other show that has had such success Enchanted had where actors still speak ill of the experience a quarter century later,” she wrote in the caption of the post, which included a transcript from MegaCon.

Milano added that there were disagreements between them Enchanted cast members were documented at the time, and she was told that Doherty and Combs were not open to mediation, although a mediator was brought on set.

“This intermediary then recommended, after gathering testimonials from the cast and crew — what changes should be made if the show was to continue,” she wrote.

“I didn’t have the power to fire anyone. After Shannen left, we had 5 more successful seasons and I’m forever grateful,” she said at the end of the caption, noting that the late TV producer Aaron Spelling and the TV studio made the decision to fire Doherty.

On Doherty’s podcast Let’s be clear with Shannen Doherty. in December 2023, Combs said she was told Milano said he would not continue working with Doherty.

According to Combs, producer Jonathan Levin told her, “We didn’t want to, but we’re backed into this corner — we’re actually in this position where it’s one or the other. We are told [by Alyssa] it is she or [Shannen] and Alyssa threatened to sue us for a hostile work environment.”

“I lived for a year after that kind of replaying everything in my brain and really trying to find those moments,” Doherty said in a podcast about her work with Milan. “I don’t remember ever being mean to her on set.”
