Amazing Pokémon Rugs Perfectly Recreate Red, Blue & Green Box Art

A dedicated fan masterfully recreated the box art of Pokémon Red, Blue, Yellow, and Green in rug form. Pokémon Red, Green, and Blue were the first ever Pokémon games, released in 1996 for the Game Boy. Pokémon Yellow was released two years later, as an enhanced version of the previous games, and drew inspiration from the widely popular anime. The box art for Pokémon Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow are recognizable for featuring the fully evolved form of one of the starter Pokémon available in those games, Charizard, Blastoise, Venusaur, and Pikachu. Pikachu on Pokémon Yellow is a special exception since it refuses to evolve, just like the Pikachu in the Pokémon anime, and it is the only choice for a starter in that version. Until the release of Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu! and Eevee!, these were the only games to feature starter Pokémon on the cover. Every main Pokémon game that has come out since has instead featured the legendary Pokémon that is exclusive to that version. For example, Pokémon Silver’s art shows Lugia, whom players can only capture in Silver.Twitter user and artist sclass_supply recreated the box art of Pokémon Green as a rug. Sclass_supply is known for making fan art rugs of not just Pokémon, but anime such as Naruto and Dragon Ball as well. As seen in the video, he started his process by hanging the rug material on the wall and projecting the Pokémon box art onto it. Then after redrawing the line art onto the rug, he got to work by adding color using a tufting gun. Sclass_supply admitted to “over $150 in materials just to make this thing,” as the rug turned out bigger than originally planned. However, after some trimming and cleaning, the rug was complete, and the result is a perfect replica of the original art. The entire process took about four days to finish, and with the final addition of a rug for Pokémon Leaf Green, sclass_supply now has a rug for each of the first-generation Pokémon games.

Classic Pokémon Box Art Comes to Life in Rug Form

Sclass_supply’s rug is a true labor of love, and looking at the final result it’s clear that the effort and money were not wasted. His skill at the rug-making craft truly shows in the process of making the Pokémon Green rug, with a steady hand capturing the line art just right and the color choices being a spot-on match to the original. For each Pokémon rug, Sclass_supply went so far as to not only replicate the box art but the game cartridge itself all around it.

Now that sclass_suppy’s first generation Pokémon collection is complete, his fans are looking forward to what he’ll create next. Pokémon Red, Blue, Yellow, and Green were the first of many Pokémon games, so it’s no surprise that decades later they are still inspiring creative projects from fans.
