After a nail-biting three-hour finale, Abi Carter is the latest American Idol!
During the season 22 finale on Sunday, May 19, Carter was crowned the winner after a stunning performance of her original song “This Isn’t Over” and Billie Eilish’s rendition of “What Was I Made For?”
Carter was up against Will Moseley and Jack Blocker, who were second and third, respectively.
The singer first wowed the judges during her audition, where she performed Eilish’s tune from Barbie movie.
Carter, who is from Indio, California, said she has always dreamed of getting on the show – and “this is just me doing it.”

Since then, Carter has continued to impress Idol audiences throughout the country. Earlier this month, her rendition of Adele’s “Hello” was the judges’ favourite.
“That was her best. That was her best at her best. And of course I’m sitting there going, is that ‘Hello’? Is that ‘Hello?’ That’s Adele,” Richie said. “She made that song her song. Every whisper. She’s the only lady I know who can turn a whisper into a note.”

He continued: “It’s not about the volume; it’s about the expression. She’s got it and she could be fooling herself to win this thing. It depends on how it goes, but I mean, that’s how I feel. She’s so strong and she’s becoming stronger.”
