During the Aug. 20 episode of NBC’s hit series, the stakes got even higher as judges Simon Cowell and Howie Mandel jokingly argued over AIRFOOTWORKS’ impressive dance performance and who really had the honor of awarding them the coveted Golden Buzzer.
After the group’s routine left the judges and the audience on their feet, in awe of their mesmerizing rendition of Ed Sheeran’s “Celestial,” things took a dramatic turn. Chaos ensued when Simon and Howie simultaneously reached to press the golden buzzer.
In an interview with PEOPLE shortly after the show, AIRFOOTWORKS reacted to the feud, saying, “I was really surprised when we came out and this! It was really amazing.”

“After that sound, I just start jumping. I think I just shook my brain because I can’t wait to watch it again,” she smiled. “It’s so loud in there that I have to go see it again, because sometimes you hear it and sometimes you don’t. As for what fans can look forward to in the finale, Learnmore told PEOPLE that he plans to “up his game.”
“I have to bring something surprising because comedy is all about surprises, like misdirection,” he explained. “So people are going to be shocked because there’s so much more to me than what you’ve seen so far. So I think I’m going to have to up my game and be more vulnerable.”

“I tried to AGT 2009 and didn’t make it past the first round in Chicago… But as the song says, ‘Don’t stop believing!’ How can I tell the kids that without reaching for my dreams myself?” he said. “The songs I like to sing are timeless and give everyone hope. That’s what I really want to do, just give people hope [and encourage them to] never give up.”
Although Richard previously explained that he “didn’t expect” to win, he told PEOPLE that he would “do my best.”
“I am a normal person who does regular things for people. I did my singing mostly every year in our schools. Whenever I was asked to sing, I did,” he added. “To this day, I know how lucky I am. And I don’t take any of this for granted.”

“A lot of people would give up,” Simon said, before rhetorically asking, “How do you do this two-person one-person act and then make it amazing?”
“Honestly, I think most people would have just said, you know what, we had an accident and therefore we can’t continue, but you did the opposite, you continued,” he added before pressing the Golden Buzzer.
