In January 2021, former army officer Sujit Apte was embroiled in a controversy when he filed a complaint against Amy, accusing him of threatening to kill him. He filed a writ in the Bombay High Court after Mumbai police denied filing an FIR against Amy. In his petition, he said the Mumbai police did not help him because they were under pressure from politicians. Surjit said in an interview that the problem started when the municipality demolished an illegal Sai Baba temple built on the sidewalk of his property. He claimed that the temple was built near a slum and many people used to sit inside the illegal premises and drink and take drugs freely. He also said that these activities were still being carried out in the temple amid the Covid-19 pandemic and no action was taken against them even after complaints were lodged. On December 11, 2020, the HC ordered the demolition of the temple. On December 13, 2020, Amy and local goons came to Sujit’s house after the building was demolished. In an interview, Apter recalled what Ambi told him and said:
It is because of you that our temples were demolished. This temple belongs to our chosen people. They could have done whatever they wanted with it. Who are you to interfere. Now, my constituents will sit on the sidewalk next to your property and do Charas and ganja or whatever they want to do. “
He also ordered Apte to remove all security features installed on his property by December 16 as they want to rebuild the Sai Baba temple. He even asked the thugs to sit in front of Apter’s house and drink, smoke or do whatever they wanted.

- In July 2017, RJ Malishka performed a song titled “What do you trust Mumbai BMC?” On Red FM. The song went viral in just a few minutes and other radio channels started promoting the song. Shiv Sena corporator Solanki Sarwankar and Amey told municipal commissioner Ajoy Mehta to take legal action against Red FM and Malishka for defaming the municipal corporation. The song is about the BMC not working properly because of the heavy traffic in Mumbai and the trains not running properly. After the song was played, BMC staff said that the workload was heavy and they did not have any holidays. Workers also said large amounts of garbage are removed every day and water is supplied regularly. Savankar asked the Municipal Commissioner to take legal action against Red FM for making false claims against municipal employees.
- In December 2019, he had criticized Devendra Fadnavis’ wife Amruta Fadnavis in a tweet about Thackeray. She wrote on Twitter that if a person’s last name is “Thackry”, they cannot be “Thackry”. Replying to her tweet, he spoke about history and said Raghunath Darpaisway was smart and powerful but power-hungry Anandibhi corrupted his intellect. - In 2020, Amey took demolition action in response to complaints against Lalit Restaurant & Bar in Dhobitalao. The Bombay High Court criticized his demolition decision. The owner of Lalit D’Souza restaurant said in the petition that the city government will take action only after complaints are lodged by politicians. In her complaint, Amy said the restaurant building was illegally built within a housing ditch. Thereafter, Lalit stated in his petition that the building was constructed in 1973 and the business was registered with the BMC since then. Amey’s advocates said the BMC sent a notice posted on the restaurant’s wall but they did not receive it because the restaurant was closed due to COVID-19. “We are prima facie convinced that the company acted hastily upon receipt of the complaint but did not file the complaint,” the judge said in the order.
- In 2020, he shared a photo of a boat on Twitter and claimed that it was the Maharashtra government’s ambulance service from Mandawa jetty to the Gateway of India. - In December 2020, he invited citizens of Wadala to join him as representatives to engage people in solving civic problems. He said deputies would act as mediators, bringing citizen issues to him and making suggestions for improvements. He received more than 150 requests from wards, many of whom wanted to be part of his “Become a Team Player” initiative.
- In January 2023, after he missed a meeting of Yuva Sena convened by Aditya, Aditya said that Amy was planning to leave Shiva Sena or Yuva Sena. He said in an interview that he questioned Aditya Thackeray over Yuva Sena’s private monopoly. He said in the interview,
Adityaji treated me like family. They never abused me. I asked these questions and I’m waiting for answers. I would never leave their hands and go anywhere else. I am waiting for a positive reply…I will be with the Thackeray family and will continue to work for the party. I don’t talk to anyone, I am loyal only to Adityaji. “
- He left the Shiv Sena on April 17, 2023, claiming that former mayor Shraddha Jadhav and Shiv Sena secretary Suraj Chavan did not give him space to work. In his letter to Aditya, he further stated that he had written to Aditya regarding this issue but did not receive any reply from him. In an interview, he spoke about this and said:
My friendship with Aditya is not limited to politics and I hope to continue this friendship in the future. I have tried several times to resolve the internal dispute without success. Eventually, I had to leave the party. Now, I have joined the Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde. “
