Amma Sri Karunamayi is an Indian spiritual leader who is known to have fulfilled the prophecies of Indian Hindu saint Bhagawan Ramana Maharshi. She has been immersed in prayer and meditation since childhood. Amma has been traveling for over 20 years, sharing her peace, love and wisdom with her cosmic family, who believe she is an incarnation of the Hindu god Vishnu.

Amma Sri Karunamayi was born on Tuesday, October 21, 1958, in Andhra Pradesh, India (64 years; as of 2022). Her childhood was spent in an atmosphere of constant prayer, worship and meditation. When she was 21, she began spending more time praying and meditating in her home’s worship room. She reduced her sleep hours and even her food intake. She once locked herself in her room for an entire month and experienced a personal transformation. In 1980, she trekked to the remote and sacred peninsular forests of Andhra Pradesh. Wearing a simple cotton sari, she headed to India’s sacred grove where many ancient saints had meditated for hundreds of years, meditating for hours, days and even weeks at a time, in a state that was devoid of any wildlife. Her father’s name is Sri Suba Ramana and mother’s name is Srimati Annapurna Ma. Karunamayi’s mother is a devotee of Indian Hindu saint Bhagawan Ramana Maharshi. Sri Karunamayi Amma has been passionate about philanthropy since childhood. She is the founder of the SMVA Trust, a global non-profit organization established in 1988 in partnership with the United Nations Department of Public Information. The SMVA Trust together with Amma’s volunteer initiative project is called Karunaseva Compassionate Services. The organization provides free education to the underprivileged and provides them with free medical services and facilities. Amma is also the founder and spiritual leader of Manidweepa Maha Samsthanam, which includes Sri Lalita Parameshwari Devi Tri-Shakti Peetham. The charities also work to provide them with mobile health clinics, emergency relief programs and free housing for the dispossessed. Apart from this, Amma also initiated many other humanitarian projects such as Sri Karunamayi Free Hospital, Sri Karunamayi Free School, Home for the Elderly and charity food distribution. She also opened a 100-bed free hospital to provide quality medical services to poor villages in nearby Andhra Pradesh.

- Amma Sri Karunamayi is also known as Bhagavati Sri Sri Sri Sri Vijayeswari Devi meaning the Goddess of Victory. The triple “Sri” here is an honorary prefix, which means sacred, respectable and auspicious.
- Her followers call her “Amma,” which means “Mother.” Her followers believe she is an incarnation of the Hindu god Vishnu and was born enlightened.
- When Amma meditates in the peninsular forests of Andhra Pradesh, she is mistaken for a statue by local villagers because they cannot even detect her breathing movements.
