Amy Grant, an American singer and songwriter, died in a bicycle accident in a Nashville park on July 27. Grant was cycling with a friend around Harpeth Hills Golf Course when she crashed. Because she was wearing a helmet, the singer did not suffer serious injuries. After the accident, she was taken to the Vanderbilt Medical Center emergency department to be evaluated for her injuries and scratches. According to WKRN in Nashville, the singer is currently stable, but will most likely be hospitalized as a precaution.

Amy Grant has just been awarded the coveted Kennedy Center Honor Award
Amy Grant’s tragedy occurred just days after she was awarded the Kennedy Center Honor by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. In addition to Grant, the winners include the Irish group U2, actor George Clooney and singer Gladys Knight.

“Over the years, I’ve seen so many of my idols serenaded by peers and other artists, and I’ve always been influenced by the ability of music and film to bring people together and see the best in each other.” I look forward to celebrating with my fellow awardees, friends and family. The singer recently marked the 25th anniversary of her album Behind The Eyes, released in 1997. She released a two-CD set of an enhanced version of the album for the 25th anniversary. The two CDs include 30 tracks as well as an eight-page booklet with photos and stories about the making of Behind The Eyes.

Amy Grant, who has been called the “Queen of the Christian Mainstream,” began her career in contemporary Christian music before transitioning to pop music in the 1980s and 1990s. Grant has received several accolades throughout her career, including six Grammy Awards. Grant debuted at a young age and rose to prominence in Christian music in the 1980s with singles such as Father’s Eyes, El Shaddai and Angels. Her transition to pop music resulted in hit albums such as Unguarded and Lead Me On.
She won her first Grammy in 1982 for Age to Age, then another in 1983 for Ageless Medley, and two more in 1984 for Angels and Unguarded, all in the best gospel category.
