Andie MacDowell’s daughters are big fans of her style!
Actress and L’Oréal ambassador Paris, 66, revealed to PEOPLE at the Cannes Film Festival that she’s often mistaken for still being a model because she still appears in ads for the French brand — and even her daughters Margaret, 29, and Rainey Qualley, 35, still uses her as a style inspiration.
“I went to Margaret’s house and showed up, and she went online and bought a lot of my old covers,” MacDowell said. “So when I saw … that she had these covers with me, it really touched me. So I went online and tried to find covers that I didn’t have.”
“And Rainey does it too,” she added.

MacDowell, who shares a daughter and son, Justin, with her ex-husband, Paul Qualley, told PEOPLE she’s happy to know it’s important for her daughters to keep pictures of her from her modeling days, something she intended to do as well.
“I felt good. Because I do it to them, obviously. I’m always like, ‘I want this and let’s save this picture. I want that.’ But having them do the same to me… makes me feel really good,” she explained.
The way home star, noted that she has graced ads and magazines since she began her tenure as a spokesperson for L’Oréal Paris “almost 40 years ago,” and has seen the beauty industry evolve from that time to her daughters’ generation.

“I saw [the brand] to be in the front rows [inclusiveness], including women from all over the world, all different types of beauty and obviously older women, which is, we need that,” she told PEOPLE. “That is important for us. So I’ve seen them grow and they’ve also exposed me to the fact that being able to come to Cannes all the time is wonderful for them.”
She also noted that the “culture” behind women has “changed” over the years since she first starred in the 1989 film. Sex, lies and video tapes. She then stated that she did not attend the Cannes Film Festival because she had “just given birth” and was “afraid” of what people would think of her body.

“Society changed because they could be very cruel. They were cruel to women,” she recalled. “And because of the change in our expectations and because we brought it up, they can no longer be like that to us.”
She added that it was a “shame” that she didn’t feel comfortable showing her body back then because of the criticism, but now she feels she can “embrace” her “female body”.
“I don’t think we could feel sexy about ourselves because we were told we weren’t.” And we demanded it, and we took it back and we said, ‘But this is what it means to be a woman. We are not girls, we are women,’ she explained.
“I think that has changed in my time, in my 40s [of] aging,” she added. “I think that concept has changed.”
In Cannes, MacDowell also attended the Lights on Women Awards on May 24, launched by L’Oréal Paris in 2021 to celebrate up-and-coming female filmmakers.
