Andre Braugher’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine Family Reunites to Honor Him: ‘We Laughed. We Cried a Little. We Reminisced’

In a joint post shared on Instagram by Terry Crews and Melissa Fumero, the actors were photographed smiling side by side after a meal together. Andy Samberg, Chelsea Peretti, Joe Lo Truglio, Stephanie Beatriz, Joel McKinnon Miller and Dirk Blocker were among those in attendance at the reunion.

“I couldn’t have described last night any better…!” Crews wrote in the caption, adding the show’s favorite catchphrase, “NINE-NINE.”

“We laughed. We cried a little. We reminisced. We laughed some more. Nine Nine Forever,” he concluded.

In December, PEOPLE confirmed that Braugher had died of lung cancer. He was 61 years old.

The late actor was best known for his role as Det. Enter Frank Pemberton Murder: Life on the Street for which he won an Emmy Award in 1998. He was also known for his role as the no-nonsense Captain Raymond Holt in Brooklyn Nine-Nine and picked up four Emmy nominations during its run. He earned a total of 11 Emmy nominations in his career, including a second win for the miniseries in 2006. Thief.

Crews, who played Terry Jeffords, was among the first to pay tribute to Braugher on social media, saying he couldn’t believe the actor was “gone so soon.”

“I am honored to have known you, laughed with you, worked with you and shared 8 glorious years watching your irreplaceable talent. This hurts. You left us too soon,” he wrote on Instagram.

The 55-year-old then praised Braugher for teaching him “so much” and expressed that he was “grateful for the experience of knowing you.”

“Thank you for your wisdom, advice, kindness and friendship. My deepest condolences to your wife and family at this difficult time. You have shown me what a life well lived looks like,” he added.

Lo Truglio also shared some of his fondest memories of working with Braugher in his own statement.

“So many wonderful stories will be told about Andre, but for now, all my love goes out to his wife Ama and his three sons, whom he loved dearly and came back every weekend from the show to be with them,” he wrote alongside a photo from Braugher laughing.

“We all know how powerful an actor he was, but what’s more, Andre knew his most important role well and was deeply proud of it,” he added. “He often talked about his sons and knew how lucky he was to have Ami. I am grateful to them for allowing us to share eight years with him.”

“I already miss him a lot,” he concluded his post. “What an honor to work with a man who knew what it was all about. I feel blessed and grateful. I miss you, Captain Holt. With love, Porkchop.💔.”
