I was probably around 16 and I remember telling the makeup artist that I had a flight to Nagaland and I wanted to go home because I missed spending time with my parents. She said, ‘Oh, really?’ When will you return to your country? I was really surprised because she didn’t really know that Nagaland is part of India. “
She added,
It doesn’t matter how I look or the language I speak. I am Indian because I was born in this country. I think this is quite detrimental to the fact that people have to prove they are Indian. I am from Nagaland and I don’t think it is right to prove myself as Indian to other cities or other parts of the country. “
