He eventually played a key role as one of the founding members of OpenAI, an artificial intelligence research collective, working as a research scientist between 2015 and 2017. In June 2017, he moved to Tesla to lead the AI division.
He was assigned the role of Senior Director of AI and reported directly to Elon Musk. He led the team working on Tesla’s autopilot feature. After working at the company for about five years, he left the job in June 2022.
Given his experience, OpenAI rehired him in February 2023.
