Andy Gibb News

Before his life abruptly ended at age 30, pop artist Andy Gibb, who rose to popularity as a teen idol, hoped to make a comeback.

The disco phenomenon, who had six hit records in the late 1970s, filed for bankruptcy in 1987 and was earning less than $8,000 per year. The Bee Gees’ younger brother was preparing to resume his musical career with a determined attitude.

Even taking his younger sibling to London so they might work together once more, Barry Gibb. Early in 1988, Andy moved into a carriage house on his brother Robin Gibb’s property. With Island Records, he had a deal. His prospects appeared better.

Andy appeared content and in good health at that point, the author Matthew Hild told Fox News Digital. “He lastly agreed to a record deal in London. He intended to start working on an album. Things were beginning to improve. He was gregarious and enthused. He did, however, live alone.

And Andy never enjoyed being alone in his life. When it was time to resume work, his self-assurance started to waver. He lost hope and the ability to bounce back. However, he was excited to create what ought to have been his upcoming album. His final days were marked by a mix of optimism, sadness, and insecurity.

Andy was admitted to the hospital three times, according to Hild, complaining of chest and abdominal pain. On Robin’s property that evening, on March 9, 1988, Andy passed out. Myocarditis, or the inflammation of the heart muscle, caused him to pass away the following morning.

Hild’s most recent work, “Arrow Through the Heart,” which Groundbreaking Productions has optioned, tells the tale of Andy. It explains how Andy became a well-known figure on his own and how his battle with addiction led to his terrible demise.

A request for comment regarding Hild’s book from Fox News Digital was not immediately answered by a representative for Barry, the sole surviving Bee Gee.

Hild cited the release of Barry’s documentary “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart” in 2020. “Of course, Andy was acknowledged, but I didn’t think anyone really took the time to share his story. Although his life was brief, he did a lot while he was here. We all know how he passed away, but what about his actual life? I wanted to tell a story like that.
