Angel Reese is open about her finances.
The 22-year-old basketball star revealed how much she pays in monthly rent for her apartment — and how her annual salary from playing in the WNBA doesn’t cover living expenses — during a recent Instagram Live, which was re-posted by the fan account on X (formerly Twitter).
“I just hope you all know, the WNBA doesn’t pay my bills at all,” Reese told her followers. “I don’t even think it’s literally one of my bills paying me.”
The Chicago Sky forward admitted at the time that she wasn’t sure about her WNBA salary — according to Sportrac, it was $73,439 this season — before calculating whether it would cover just her rent. After calculating her $8,000 monthly rent, Reese joked, “I’m living beyond my means!”

In lieu of her WNBA salary, Reese said, “I hate paying them bills baby,” seemingly referring to the large following she’s built on social media.
Even before the league drafted her, Reese was one of the highest paid NIL athletes along with Bronny James and Olivia Dunne. Currently, the Sky star has contracts with Reebok, Hersey’s Reese’s Piece’s, Beats by Dr. Dre and Good American.
She also hosts her own podcast, No apologies, angel, and creates branded content on its popular Instagram and TikTok accounts.

After a video of Reese discussing her salary and rent went viral, social media users were quick to criticize her spending habits.
Reese took to Twitter to laugh off concerns that she was actually living beyond her means, re-sharing a post that read: “Can’t you see the cooperation and support Angel has? I’m sure she can’t see the 8k leaving her account.”
“Sister, these people don’t use common sense at all…” Reese wrote in response to the post.

She also shared a post that read: “People will fake WNBA salaries and then get mad at a player for figuring out how to get other bags in the off season,” alongside a photo of the Sky star walking the red carpet at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in New York .
This week, Reese joined three-time WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson on the cover The Wall Street Journal in the league’s growing success story.
In another post shared by Reese on X, the user wrote: “An angel on the cover of the Wall Street Journal and you all think she can’t afford the rent lol.”
