Angelina Jolie celebrates her latest achievement with her daughter, Zahara Jolie-Pitt, by her side.
On Friday, January 3, the mother-daughter duo attended the Palm Springs International Film Awards at the Palm Springs Convention Center, where Jolie is the honorary recipient.
The Palm Springs International Film Festival previously announced in November that the actress, 49, would be honored with the Desert Palm Achievement Award for her performance as the titular opera singer Maria Callas in the Netflix biopic Maria. Jolie’s godmother, Jacqueline Bisset, also walked the red carpet before presenting Jolie with the award.

“Maria presents the legendary Angelina Jolie in the role of a lifetime embodying Maria Callas, the world-famous opera legend. Jolie’s extraordinary portrait captures the heart and complexity of an artist whose life was as captivating as her music,” said Festival President Nachhattar Singh Chandi in a statement following the announcement.
“In honor of her mesmerizing transformation into this revolutionary yet tragic figure, we are excited to present Angelina Jolie with the Desert Palm Achievement Award, actress,” his statement continued.

To mark the occasion, Jolie wore a floor-length black silk halter dress as she posed on the carpet with her 19-year-old daughter.

Jolie wore her blonde locks loose, with new bangs swept to the side. The movie star completed the look with dark eyeshadow and soft pink lips.
Zahara decided to contrast her mom’s look by wearing a white A-line dress with lace details and a white fabric that falls down one shoulder.

Jolie attended the event hours after she was seen at the festival in an all-white jacket, trousers and bare heels.
The awards ceremony marks her first appearance at a major event since she and Brad Pitt, 61, reached a divorce settlement. Besides Zahara, she and the actor have five more children: Maddox, 23, Pax, 21, Shiloh, 18, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 16.

A source close to Jolie told PEOPLE in July that she “seems very happy and content with her life.”

Maria now streaming on Netflix. Jolie’s work in the film also earned her a nomination at the Golden Globe Awards, which will take place on Sunday, January 5.
