Angelina Jolie Debuts New Bird Tattoo at the 2024 Tony Awards: See the Surprising Placement

Angelina Jolie debuted new ink at the 2024 Tony Awards.

On Sunday, June 16, the 49-year-old actress and producer Outsiders walked the red carpet at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center in New York, where she wore a custom Atelier Versace light blue velvet neckline dress with a sweetheart neckline that showed off what appears to be a new tattoo of a small bird. A sparrow-like bird is in flight.

Jolie — whose tattoo wasn’t visible back in April, when she and daughter Vivienne attended the musical’s opening night — also wore matching velvet shoulders and coordinated with 15-year-old Vivienne, who is credited with Advertisement for outsiders as an assistant producer.

For Broadway’s biggest night, the teenager wore a crisp white shirt under a teal waistcoat, plus teal trousers and a bow tie. She completed her look with Converse sneakers.

Angelina Jolie gets matching tattoos with Outsiders The creative team in a sweet nod to the story — check out her new ink

Jolie was nominated to co-produce the musical adaptation of SE Hinton’s 1967 book. Outsiders, which is up for 12 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Danya Taymor took home the Tony for Best Director of a Musical.

During the evening, Jolie introduced a performance from the encore show, which included renditions of “Tulsa ’67” and “Grease Got a Hold.” The performance ended with the entire cast performing a rumbling, elaborate dance fight that takes place as the rain falls.

“[S. E.] Hinton wrote Outsiders in high school, and half a century later, it still speaks to us. Society is changing, but the outsider experience is universal,” Jolie said. “For any young person, any person, who feels like an outsider, you’re not wrong to see what’s unfair. You’re not wrong to want to find your own way.”

“As the cast raises their voices, I hope it inspires many of you watching to appreciate yours,” the actress and humanitarian said, concluding: “Please salute the extraordinary company Outsiders.”

Adapted from Hinton’s 1967 coming-of-age book, the Outsiders The plot of the musical revolves around the class conflicts between the greasing working class and the wealthy Socs. It mainly follows the brothers Ponyboy, Darrel and Sodapop “Soda” Curtis and their group of friends some time after the death of the brothers’ parents.

As PEOPLE reported in August 2023, Vivienne inspired her mother to take on the role of executive producer Outsiders after attending the world premiere of the musical in California.

“She’s going to set me straight,” Jolie said of Vivienne’s ability as a theatrical producer at the series premiere in April. “She’ll say, ‘Didn’t you read the memo? We have to do this. We have to get through this.’ ”

“She was a really tough assistant,” the Oscar winner added to PEOPLE at the time. – She takes it very, very seriously.
