Animal Nonprofit Looking to Reunite Sergeant with Cat He Bonded with While Serving Overseas

An animal nonprofit wants to reunite a sergeant with a cat he became close to while serving overseas.

According to a press release obtained by PEOPLE from Paws of War, Staff Sergeant Morales — a flight paramedic deployed in the Middle East who rescues injured soldiers from dangerous areas — and his team encountered and bonded with a cat they named Tuna, who gave gave birth to three kittens before she died suddenly.

After caring for the cat’s offspring, Paws of War said two of the cats were able to find homes, while a third cat, Frankie, described as “litter droppings”, remained overseas.

Paws of War has now made it their mission to rescue Frankie and bring him to a loving home with Sergeant Morales, who, according to the organization, lives in Massachusetts.

“Having these cats around really boosted morale. Our job is under constant pressure, and when we get a call, we know we have to be mentally and physically ready for what we’re about to experience,” Sergeant Morales said in a statement.

He added: “We need to be there for soldiers on their worst days. I didn’t think cats would change my life on this basis, but they certainly changed the game.”

In his own statement, Robert Misseri, co-founder of Paws of War, said: “This sweet cat cannot be left behind. We need to get her out of harm’s way so she can be reunited with her soldier when he returns from his deployment.”
