Anirudh Agarwal is an Indian film and television actor. He is best known for his role as “Samri” in the Bollywood film Purana Mandir (1984).

Profession
He started his career as a civil engineering contractor at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre in Mumbai. Due to ill health, he took a long leave and resigned. He made his debut in the Hindi film Teri Maang Sitaron Se Bhar Doon (1982). Later, one of his friends asked him to meet the Ramsay brothers. Fortunately, the Ramsay brothers were looking for an actor who could play a ghost in their film and Anirudh played the role of “Samri” in the 1984 film Purana Mandir.
He gained popularity for playing ghosts in many Indian films. He has acted in many Bollywood films like 3D Saamri (1985), Ram Lakhan (1989), Bandh Darwaza (1990), Bandit Queen (1994), Dulhan Bani Daayan (1999), Mela (2000) and Mallika (2010).
He also starred in two Hollywood films, The Jungle Book (1994) and Such a Long Journey (1998).
In 1993, he made his television debut in the television series Zee Horror Show (1993). Later, he acted in the television series Tu Tu Main Main (1994), Mano Ya Na Mano (1995) and Shaktimaan (1997).

- During college, he was elected as the Secretary General of the Student Union.
- The reason for his excessive height is a pituitary tumor, which has caused his face to be distorted.
- He started his acting career as ‘Ajay Agarwal’ but later changed to his real name.
- Reportedly, his parents were not happy about his decision to pursue a career as an actor.
- Earlier, he was often confused with underworld criminal Mohammed Iqbal Sheikh (nicknamed Purana Mandir by the police).
- Anirudh’s son Aseem Agrawal made his acting debut in the Hindi film Fight Club (2006) and currently lives in Los Angeles, USA.
- Anirudh’s daughter Kapila Agarwal made her debut as an actress in Bunty Aur Babli (2005) and is now an architect.
