Anish joined the Manipur cadre at the height of insurgency in India’s northeastern region. After being promoted as Deputy Director General of Police (ADGP), Anish was posted to New Delhi as Central Representative. There, he was appointed Joint Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB); he later became Special Director of the IB. He took charge as Director General of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) on October 4, 2023. At the same time, he also serves as the Director General of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).

Following the retirement of SL Towson in November 2023, he took on the additional responsibility of leading the CRPF. Anish will retire on December 31, 2024.
