Anna Delvey Doesn’t Think She Got a Fair Shot on Dancing with the Stars

Anna Delvey thinks she should have lasted a few more rounds Dancing with the stars.

The convicted fraudster, 33, sat down with fellow former contestant Tori Spelling to discuss her very brief appearance this season DWTS for the September 28 episode of Spellings wrong SPELLING podcast. Reflecting on both of their exits from the competition (Delvey and Spelling were both eliminated during the Sept. 24 episode), the pair joked about becoming the first contestants to be eliminated twice.

“We are like the biggest losers Dancing with the stars ever seen,” Delvey said during the episode. “They thought blondes had the most fun, and they just weren’t into it.”

“Honestly, I didn’t expect to go home on the first show,” Spelling, 51, added, before Delvey chimed in: “I didn’t expect you to go home.”

“Like, nothing would surprise me in my situation because I’m such a wild card,” said Delvey, whose story of how he became a con artist turned into a Netflix Making up Anna. “But I was trying, and I was like, ‘Oh, I kind of got better.’ ”

In addition, Delvey detailed her concerns about being associated with DWTS audience, since viewers of the show are getting older. According to the 33-year-old, she believed that most of the people who would be interested in watching her contest would be younger.

“At first I was worried about being on the show because I thought what it would do to my image because obviously none of the older audience can relate to me because of my past,” said Delvey, speaking about her fraud case. which ended in her serving a prison sentence. “So everyone who is a fan of mine is on the younger side.”

“It’s not the kind of people who necessarily watch live TV or know about Dancing with the Stars”, she added.

Delvey became famous for posing as a wealthy heiress and using her social position to defraud people, banks and hotels. She was arrested in 2017 and convicted of aggravated theft in the first, second and third degree and theft of services in 2019.

Delvey is shocked DWTS fans during her brief stint on the show, stepping out in a flashy ankle monitor as part of her costume. When host Julianne Hough asked Delvey what she was taking away from her experience on the show after her elimination, Delvey responded with a blunt, one-word answer: “Nothing.”

Elsewhere in the podcast episode, Delvey told Spelling to believe DWTS producers considered her an unfair standard, adding that she was also confused by audiences wanting her to smile or cry after a performance when that just wasn’t her personality.

“They were building me up,” she said. ‘It’s like, ‘If only you smile more, if only you do XYZ, you’ll be so much better.’ And it felt like they put so much effort into getting me on the show, making me feel comfortable, only to eliminate me this early.”

Delvey also called out fellow contestants Eric Roberts and Reginald VelJohnson, saying she felt both she and Spelling were better dancers than the two.

“I see it as an attempt to embarrass us before Eric or Reginald in the dance competition. Although in the end, it’s not that big of a deal,” Delvey said.

“He’s a great person and a cultural icon, but he’s not a good dancer,” she later added of VelJohnson. “And I thought I’d signed up for a dance competition, not a popularity contest — who’s the most loved person in Hollywood.”
