According to former FBI agent Vince, “van den Bergh had to give something valuable to the Nazis he had contact with to let him and his wife at that time stay safe when he lost all his series of protections exempting him from having to go to the camps.”
The team claimed that learning that another Jewish person was presumably the betrayer had been difficult for them. However, it also discovered proof that suggests Otto Frank, Anne’s father, may have known about it but kept it a secret.
They discovered a copy of an anonymous letter to Otto Frank naming Arnold van den Bergh as his traitor in the records of an earlier inquiry.
