Annie began her literary career in 1974 with the autobiographical novel Les Armoires vides. In 1984, Annie won the Renaudot Prize (a French literary prize) for another of her autobiographical works, La Place (The Place of Man). It was an autobiographical narrative focused on her relationship with her father and Annie’s experiences growing up in a small town in France, and her process of coming of age and away from her parents’ place of origin.
On October 6, 2022, it was announced that Annie would receive the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2022. Annie is the 16th French writer and the first French woman to win the prize for literature.
