Anoop Kumar (1926-1997) was a Bollywood actor. His real name is Kayan Kumar Ganguly. From 1950 to 1993, he appeared in more than 70 films and several TV series. He is the brother of legendary Indian actors and singers Ashok Kumar and Kishore Kumar. He has also lent his voice to several songs. He died of massive cardiac arrest in 1997.

Anup came to Mumbai in the late 1940s and settled with his brother Ashok Kumar, an actor. Anup made his debut in Bollywood in 1950 with the film Khiladi. He then played leading roles in the films Gauna (1950) and Vidyasagar (1950). In 1957, he made his breakthrough in “Dekh Kabira Roya”. It is a romantic comedy film produced by Amya Chakrabarti in which he plays the lead role of Mohan.
He worked in the Bengali film Lukochuri (1957), starring Kishore Kumar in the lead role. Anoop Kumar after starring in the 1958 Bollywood film Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi along with his brothers Ashok Kumar and Kishore Kumar Very popular. It was the second highest grossing film of the year, with a box office revenue of approximately Rs. 2.5 Crores. In 2007, the Marathi remake of Saade Maade Teen was released.
He subsequently acted in several popular films such as Jungle (1951), Kashmir Kikali (1962), Aansoo Bane Fool, Prem Pujari (1969), etc. His last film was “Kraan”, released in 1995; it starred Govinda, Shammi Kapoor and Javed Jaffrey.

He made his television debut in 1990 in Doordarshan’s detective drama series “Bheem Bhawani” along with his brother Ashok Kumar. Apart from this, he has also worked in “Dada Dadi Ki Kahaniya” and “Ek Raja Ek Rani”.

Anoop Kumar died of his fourth heart attack on September 20, 1997, at Aryogyanidhi Hospital in Juhu, northwest Mumbai. He is survived by 5 children.

- Anoop Kumar enjoys sitar recitals. His daughter spoke about the incident in an interview and said:
