Anu Aggarwal or Anita Aggarwal is a former Indian actress and model. She is best known for her debut film Aashiqui (1990).

She was born in New Delhi and grew up in Chennai. Her father Ramesh Prakash Arya is a teacher at Hans Raj College in Delhi. Her mother’s name is Urmila Arya. Anu is not married yet.
Profession
In 1987, she started working at IMRB, Kala Ghoda, Mumbai. Later, she started working as a VJ. A modeling agent spotted her at Mumbai’s Churchgate station and offered her a modeling job.

Later, she did some modeling projects. In 1988, she made her debut as an actress in the Doordarshan serial “Isi Bahane”.

In 1989, she appeared as a model in Face of Schweppes Indian Tonic. She came into limelight in 1990 with her Bollywood debut Aashiqui. The film caused a sensation.
She later appeared in several Bollywood films, including Ghazab Tamasha (1992), King Uncle (1993), Khal-Naaikaa (1993), Janam Kundli (1995) and Jewel Thief Return (1996).
She made her acting debut in the Tamil film Thiruda Thiruda in 1993.

In 1994, she appeared on MTV India’s show “Oye MTV” (which later became “BPL Oye!”) as a celebrity spokesperson and VJ. In 1996, she left Bollywood after filming the movie “The Jewel Thief Returns”.

In 1995, she realized that movies were not her strong point, so after completing filming of her last film, “The Return of the Jewel Thief” in 1996, she began traveling overseas. In 1997, she started practicing yoga.

In 1999, she met with a major accident while driving home from a party in Mumbai. Suddenly, her car veered off the road and hit a sand dune. She suffered multiple fractures after the accident. She suffered a skull fracture, resulting in coma and memory loss. She was in a coma for 29 days. She said in an interview,
I had a brain hemorrhage and a fractured skull. My mind goes blank. I didn’t have a past,” she said. “I started life again like a child. For me, it was like discovering Anu. In fact, I don’t remember much about my movies at all. . . When I look back, I think, ‘Wow, what a life!’ My life began the day I woke up half-paralyzed. At that time, I didn’t even know what paralysis meant. I exist outside of my body. During that time, I had many so-called spiritually amazing experiences. I saw the other side, death as finality and mortality, normality…where the angel of death reigns. “
She was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. After the accident, her face was paralyzed and twisted to one side. She slowly recovered and decided to dedicate her life to yoga training and meditation. She joined a yoga training center and became a yoga instructor at Yoga Munger Institute in Bihar.
In 2015, she began working as a motivational speaker at TEDx.

- She is a gold medalist in Sociology from Delhi University.
- In an interview, she shared her days of struggle, saying,
I had just arrived in Mumbai and became the object of unwanted attention on the road. From my PG in Juhu, I took an auto to the railway station to go to Churchgate. To save money, I would often walk from there to Cuffe Parade to make a phone call, not to complain, but to comfort my worried mother and let her know I was okay. “
- She never wanted to become an actor and it was director Mahesh Bhatt who encouraged her to star in Aashiqui (1990).
