Anup Jalota was born Anoop Jalota on July 29, 1953 (age 70; as of 2023) in Nainital, Uttarakhand, India you. He became popular for singing devotional bhajans, for which he was given the nickname “Bhajan Samrat”, which means “Emperor of Bhajans”. Anoop received his classical music training from his father Purshottam Das Jalota and Bhatkhande Vidyalaya in Lucknow. He was a good hitter in college. Jalota started his musical journey as a singer in legendary singer Kishore Kumar’s stage show, popularly known as “Junior Kishore”. After a lot of hard work and struggle, he got a job as a chorus singer at All India Radio. As time passed, his bhajans began to attract a large section of the society and his bhajans became a household name.

Family, wife and girlfriend
Anup Jalota was born into a musical Punjabi-Catri family in Nainital, Uttarakhand. His father Purshottam Das Jalota was a famous classical and devotional singer. Although Anup was born in Nainital, his roots can be traced back to Phagwara in the Indian state of Punjab.
He has two brothers, Anil Jalota and Promod Jalota, and two sisters, Anjali Dhir and Anita Mehra. Ajay Jalota currently lives in California, USA.
Anup Jalota married Sunali Rathod without her parents’ consent. Sunali was still a student at the time and later became an outstanding singer. The two became very famous and were known as Anup and Sunali Jalota. Their marriage didn’t last long and they divorced. Sunali later married famous singer Rupkumar Rathod.
After the divorce, Jalota’s parents arranged his marriage to Bina Bhatia. The marriage did not last long and Anup divorced his wife again.
Anup Jalota married for the third time to Medha Gujral, later known as Medha Jalota. Medha is the niece of former Indian Prime Minister Inder Kumar Gujral. Medha Jalota divorced well-known director Shekhar Kapur in 1994. However, Medha Jalota died of liver failure in 2004 in New York.
Anup and Medha have a son, Aryaman Jalota, who was born in 1996.
Anup Jalota has been in a live-in relationship with his student and singer Jasleen Matharu since 2016. They both live in Mumbai, India. The couple participated in the controversial reality show Bigg Boss Season 12.

Although Anup was born in Nainital, he later moved to Lucknow for his education. Anoop received classical training in singing and learned music from his father Purshottam Das Jalota and Bhatkhande Vidyalaya in Lucknow. Purshottam Das Jalota is also a famous devotional singer.
Anup Jalota started his music career as a singer, performing on stage with the legendary late Kishore Kumar, popularly known as Junior Kishore (Junior Kishore).
After struggling in Mumbai, he initially found a job as a chorus singer at All India Radio for a salary of Rs 350.
He got his big break when Manoj Kumar recorded four songs with him for the film Shirdi Ke Sai Baba, which went on to become a hit.
Anup has performed with many popular musicians such as Zakir Hussain, Lata Mangeshkar, Pankaj Udhas, Mehdi Hassan, Ghulam Ali, late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Jagjit Singh, Hariharan, etc.
Jalota was also the host of the television show Dharam Aur Hum (2002-2005) aired on Star Plus.
Apart from being a great singer, Anoop has also produced two Hindi films: Hum Deewane Pyar Ke (2001) and Nishaan: The Target (2005).
He has also produced music for many devotional, pop, ghazal and classical vocal albums like “Chalo Dwaar Shivshankar Ke”, “Maa Durgar Aagman”, “Bhajan Archana”, “Bhajan Tulsi”, “Wah Bhai Wah”, “Darmiyaan Apne”, “Vasundhara”, “Ibtida” and many more.
One of Anup’s earliest hit songs was Aisi Lagi Lagan.
Anup Jalota has performed over 5000 live concerts around the world. In 2015, he played the famous spiritual guru Satya Sai Baba in the film Satya Sai Baba, but the film was never released.
In 2016, he appeared as a guest on the sets of the famous comedy show “The Kapil Sharma Show” along with Pankaj Udhas and Talat Aziz.
Anup is the director of Prabhatam Flydivine Airlines in Madhya Pradesh, which has been operating since 2017.
He also gave private music training to students.
