Apoorva Shukla is a Supreme Court advocate. She became the center of attention when it was revealed that she had strangled and suffocated her husband to death. She served as the youth wing president of the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC).

Apoorva Shukla hails from Indore, Madhya Pradesh. She received her primary education from SICA High School, Indore. She also pursued higher studies at a college in Indore. She met her husband Rohit Shekhar Tiwari in Lucknow in 2017 through a dating website. They began dating and remained in a live-in relationship for a year. They parted ways in January 2018. When Rohit told his mother that he did not want to marry Apurva at all, but eventually, they mutually decided to get married in April 2018. They got married on May 11, 2018. Their marriage was strained from the day they got married, and within a month of their marriage, they started quarreling frequently. Whenever his parents would fight, Apoorva would stay with his parents in Indore. The couple plans to file for divorce in June 2019.

Apurva was born into a Brahmin family. Her father PK Shukla is a senior advocate of the Indore High Court and her brother Santosh Shukla is an advocate of the Supreme Court of India. Little is known about her family. Her husband is Rohit Shekhar Tiwari, son of former Uttarakhand Chief Minister ND Tiwari.

Apurva completed his schooling and college studies in Indore and started practicing in the Indore High Court in 2015. In 2016, she continued her practice before the Supreme Court of India.

On April 15, 2019, Rohit returned home to New Delhi from Uttarakhand; he had gone there with his mother, sister-in-law and several employees to cast his vote in the general election. At 5:30 that night, Apurva made a video call to Rohit and saw him drinking with his sister-in-law in the back seat of the car; this made her angry. After returning, she confronts Rohit and questions his closeness with her sister-in-law. Rohit assured her that there was no problem and dismissed the argument. He was so drunk that he could not speak or walk normally; he walked holding on to the wall. Apurva was furious and when Rohit walked away, she pounced on him. As Rohit was drunk, he was unable to resist the attack and collapsed on the bed; he was also weak due to the heart bypass surgery he had undergone a year ago.
Apurva strangled him with her bare hands and covered his face with a pillow. To silence his screams, Rohit was dead within minutes. After he died, Apurva realized what she had done and she started pacing the room in panic. She cleared the room and disposed of all evidence, and left the room at 2 a.m. The next morning, Rohit’s employee Golu walked into his room thinking he was sleeping and left. Rohit’s mother kept calling him, but every time Apurva told her not to disturb Rohit; just like sleeping.
At 3:30 pm, Golu walked into Rohit’s room and finally woke him up; only to find that his nose was bleeding. He immediately informed Rohit’s mother, who immediately rushed to his house in an ambulance. They took him to Marks Specialty Hospital in Sackett; he was pronounced dead. His body was sent to AIIMS for post-mortem. Doctors found the cause of his death to be suffocation, strangulation and asphyxiation. A case has been registered under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and the police have been informed.
They took statements from Rohit’s mother and Apurva and cremated the bodies. Police found numerous irregularities in Apurva’s statement. She was captured and interrogated on April 24, 2019. After revising her confession many times, she confessed to her criminal facts.
