Appearing twice in class 10, 12 exams are not compulsory: Dharmendra Pradhan

Appearing twice in 10th class, 12th exams are not compulsory

Board Exams: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has said that appearing in board exams in class 10 and 12 twice a year will not be mandatory for students. This option is introduced to reduce the stress of fearing a single opportunity. He further said that he has received positive feedback from the students about the plan to conduct the exams twice a year.

Under the new Curriculum Framework (NCF) announced by the Ministry of Education in August, exams will be held twice a year to ensure that students have enough time and opportunities to achieve good results and have the ability to retain their best results.

Reducing exam stress by conducting exam boards twice

“Students will have the option to appear for the exams (for classes 10 and 12) twice a year just like the JEE Engineering entrance exam. They can choose the best score… but it will be completely optional, without compulsion. Students are often under stress thinking that they have lost a year, that their chance has failed or that they could have done better… an option is being introduced to reduce the stress caused by the fear of one opportunity,” said the union education minister. He also added, “If any student feels that they are fully prepared and are satisfied with their marks in the first set of exams, they can choose not to appear for the next set of exams. Nothing will be made compulsory.”

Fake schools

The union minister also said that the issue of ‘fake schools’ cannot be ignored and the time has come to discuss it seriously. The number of such students is not large compared to the total number of students… the time has come to seriously discuss and think about this topic,” he said.

The Minister said that the Center is working to ensure that students do not need training. NEET and JEE candidates are admitted to schools in their home states and move to Kota to attend coaching courses. They do not attend regular schools and take exams directly. Several experts have labeled the problem of ‘fake schools’ who believe that not attending school prevents students from developing personally and that they often feel isolated and stressed.
