Ariana Grande recently got the surprise of her life.
During her performance at The Drew Barrymore Show to air on Thursday, December 5 Wicked the actress was presented with the wand of her character Glinda from the 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz.
“I have something that’s extremely exciting and special,” Barrymore, 49, announced in a preview of her interview with Grande, 31. “It was owned by the Smithsonian and now it’s privately owned. But for the purposes of our sitting, they lent it to us. Bring out the original wand of Glinda, please!”
Seeing the wand with the star on the top, used by Billie Burke as Glinda the Good Witch in the The Wizard of Ozshe immediately brought Grande to tears. “Thank you very much,” she said. “Are you serious now?” She then jokingly left with the prop, joking, “Thank you guys, it was fun. Hi!”

“You look so perfect with him,” Barrymore said.
Grande stars as Galinda Upland, the future Glinda the Good Witch, in Jon M. Chu’s film Wickeda two-part stage-to-screen adaptation of the popular Broadway musical. Burke, who died in 1970 aged 85, brought the bubbly witch to life in a film starring Judy Garland, originally based on the Oz books by L. Frank Baum.

“How did you pull this off?” a tearful Grande asked the talk show host. “Oh my god, did you break in?”
“I have to give credit to everyone on the show because we were literally so excited for you to come here,” Barrymore replied. “It is the original wand from The Wizard of Oz. Well there it is.”

Glinda’s magic wand isn’t the only valuable prop from the classic film. Garland’s iconic ruby slippers were put up for auction last month nearly two decades after they were stolen from the Judy Garland Museum in Minnesota in 2005. The pointed hat worn by Margaret Hamilton as the Wicked Witch of the West is also up for auction.
Wicked: Part One stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, Oz’s future Wicked Witch and Glinda’s friend-turned-foe. It stars Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard and more. The second part hits theaters November 26, 2025.
