Arjun’s family is originally from Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh. They later moved to Roorkee in Uttarakhand.

Arjun Singh’s father passed away. Arjun’s mother works in a pharmaceutical manufacturing factory in Roorkee and earns around Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000 per month.

Profession

Arjun Singh and his mother lead a challenging life. They live in a rented house and can only survive on their mother’s meager income. Arjun Singh has been passionate about water sports since his childhood. His uncle Ajit Singh, a national and international kayaker, encouraged Arjun’s passion for water sports. Ajit Singh convinced Arjun’s family to move to Roorkee in Uttarakhand. In 2017, Arjun, then 12 years old, started training at the Army base in Roorkee. In 2022, Arjun trained for a while at the SAI (Sports Authority of India) Aquatics Center in Jagatpur, Odisha. In 2023, Arjun Singh moved to Bhopal and joined SAI Center in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Arjun moved to Bhopal on the advice of coach Pijush Borai.

Although he is currently training at SAI Bhopal, Arjun says he has not forgotten the challenging times when his family struggled to make ends meet. Arjun said his life has improved since joining the SAI Center in Bhopal and he has received good care there.

Arjun Singh participated in the 2023 Youth and U23 Kayak Racing Asian Championships in Samarkand, Uzbekistan and won 5 medals (three silver, one gold and one bronze). Arjun Singh met his 2023 Asian Games teammate Sunil Singh Salam a few months ago after they participated in the 2023 Asian Games in Germany Boat Sprint World Championships. Their combined efforts propelled them to the finals, where they finished ninth.

Arjun Singh and teammate Sunil Singh Salam win the bronze medal at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. Their time was 3:53.329 seconds. Arjun Singh and Sunil Singh Salam are the second Indian team to win a canoeing medal (1000m doubles event) at the Asian Games. The last time the Indian team (consisting of Sigi Sadanandan and Johnny Rommel) won an Asian Games medal in canoeing was during the 1994 Asian Games in Hiroshima. Arjun Singh aims to be selected for the 2024 Paris Olympics. According to his coach Piyush Baroi, the team will have a chance to qualify for the Paris Olympics if they finish second in the Olympic qualifying rounds.
