Uttakash Tunnel Rescue
On November 12, 2023, the Uttarkashi tunnel incident occurred in Silkyara tunnel and 41 workers were trapped inside. The main reason behind the collapse appears to be a lack of proper care and safety measures. Arnold Dix and his team were actively involved in the rescue effort using a variety of methods. Microtunnels are being used to access trapped workers. Workers are awaiting rescue inside the tunnel, but have limited access to food and water. The first step is to dig a vertical shaft from the top of the mountain down to a tunnel to reach the trapped men. After 17 days of operations that successfully rescued 41 workers trapped in a tunnel in Uttarakhand, tunnel expert Arnold Dix expressed his intention to return to the makeshift temple outside the tunnel the next day. He mentioned needing to go back and say thank you. He said the successful rescue of the trapped workers was a “miracle”. In an interview, while talking about why he prayed at the makeshift temple of local deity Baba Bokh Naag Ji, he said:
I had to go to the temple because I promised to express gratitude for what happened. If you haven’t noticed, we just witnessed a miracle. ”
