Barbara, however, has a different perspective on it, and she spoke about their relationship in her 2006 memoir, Arnold and I: In the Shadow of the Austria Oak. She explained that by the end of their relationship, he had become “unbearable” and “classic conceited”. Even so, she added: “He’s got a huge determination to prove himself, and that’s fascinating… I’ll be in my grave knowing that Arnold loves me.”
