Aroon Purie is an Indian media tycoon and the founder, publisher and editor-in-chief of India Today magazine. He previously headed the India Today Group. He is the Managing Director of Thomson Publishing (India) Ltd. and Chairman of Today Television. He is a Padma Shri awardee. Aroon Purie is the former editor-in-chief of Reader’s Digest India. In 2017, he handed over control of India Today Group to his daughter Kalli Purie.

In 1970, Aroon Purie started working as a production controller at Thomson Press, a commercial printing and allied services company. Although he later handed over control of Thomson Publishing to his son Ankoor Purie, he still heads the publishing house. Thomson Publishing has five branches in different parts of India. In April 2007, controversy arose when legal proceedings were filed against Alon Puri after India Today magazine published a report titled “Mission Misconduct”.
