Arya Rajendran is a young politician from Kerala and the current Mayor of Trivandrum Municipal Corporation from the Communist Party of India (Marxist). She was appointed Mayor at the age of 21, tying the record of Suman Kohli (Elected Mayor of Bharatpur Municipal Corporation in 2009) as the youngest Mayor in India.

Arya Rajendran was born on Tuesday, January 12, 1999 (23 years old in 2022) in Mudavanmugar, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. She completed her schooling from Carmel Girls High School, Thiruvananthapuram and Government Girls High School, Cotton Hills. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics at All Saints College, Thiruvananthapuram (2019-present). After becoming the Mayor of Thiruvananthapuram, Arya is determined to take on her political responsibilities while focusing on her studies.
Family and caste
Her father Rajendran (an electrician) and mother Sreelatha (an insurance agent) have been staunch adherents of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) for nearly three decades. Her elder brother Aaravind works as an automotive engineer in Abu Dhabi.

Relationship/affair
She was in a relationship with Sachin Dev, who is considered the youngest MP of Kerala Assembly. They became good friends as SFI activists.
Political career
Alia has been associated with the CPI(M) since she joined Balasangam, the children’s wing of the CPI(M) in fifth grade. After college, she joined the Students Federation of India (SFI), the student wing of the CPI(M). She is currently the state president of Balasangham and the state office bearer of SFI. She successfully contested the 2020 Kerala Municipal Corporation elections on the CPI(M) ticket and was elected as the municipal councillor of Mudavanmugal district and the mayor of the Trivandrum Municipal Corporation. She secured 54 votes from the 100 members of the Trivandrum Municipal Corporation, defeating Simi Jyotish, the BJP candidate who received 35 votes in the mayoral election. It is believed that the CPI(M) named her as the Trivandrum mayoral candidate based on her track record as the state president of the party’s children’s wing Balasangam.

Facts/Trivia
- Arya spends much of her free time listening to music, poetry and reading. Malayalam author KR Meera is one of her personal favourites.
- She is the third woman from the Communist Party of India (Marxist) to serve as mayor of a city local government.
