Asha’s sporting journey began in 2017 when she participated in the under-14 girls 600m event at the Jharkhand National Inter-District Championships and won the title. In 2018, she won her first gold medal at the East Zone Junior Athletics Championships in Patna. In 2022, Asha Kiran Barla won the 800m gold medal at the Asian Under-20 Athletics Championships in Kuwait. In the same year, she won a gold medal at the National Junior Athletics Championships in Guwahati, India. In June 2022, Asha won the 800m event at the U20 Federation Cup Championship held at the Chhotubhai Purani Sports Center in Nadiad, Gujarat.
In January 2023, she was selected by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) to participate in the national training camp in Bangalore. In April 2023, she participated in the 800m U20 Championship held at the Tiruvannamalai Regional Sports Center and won the gold medal. Asha Kiran Barla won the silver medal in 800 meters at the 26th National Federation Cup Senior Athletics Championships held at the Birsa Munda Football Stadium, Morabadi, Ranchi on May 17, 2023. On August 10, 2023, she won a silver medal in the 800 meters at the Commonwealth Youth Games held at the Hasli Crawford Stadium in Spain.

- Asha Kiran Barla initially played hockey and football but switched to athletics on the advice of a teacher at Gumla school.
- She was trained by coach Ashu Bhatia at the residential college in Bhakaro, Jharkhand.
- Asha Kiran Bala said that in her hometown, her family had always faced challenges such as no electricity and no ration cards.
- At one point, Asha revealed in a media talk that her village, Nawaidh, 100 kilometers away from Ranchi, was mainly inhabited by the indigenous community. When she won the National Youth Championship in Bhopal in 2022, she had to wait two days to speak to her mother on the phone as her home is in Jharkhand’s Naxal-affected Gumla district. Asha also mentioned that her mother was working on improving the electricity situation at home.
