Asha Parekh is an Indian actress, director and producer. She was one of Bollywood’s top actresses from the late 1950s to the 1970s. She is considered as the “hot girl” of Bollywood. Due to her successful career in Bollywood, she was awarded the title of ‘Jubilee Girl’ of Bollywood.

Asha Parekh was born into a middle-class family of Jains in Gujarat. Her father’s name was Bachubhai Parekh, a Gujarati Jain. Her mother Sudha, also known as Salma Parekh, is a Muslim. She was rumored to be in a relationship with veteran producer and director late Nasir Hussain. However, she confirmed in her autobiography “Killer Girl” that she only loved Nasir Hussain in her life.

Parekh started her career as a child actor under the screen name “Baby Asha Parekh”. She appeared in Maa (1952) at the age of 10.
She later left showbiz to go to school. In 1959, at the age of 16, she made her debut as a female lead in Dil Deke Dekho, opposite Shammi Kapoor, and became an instant star.
Asha made her Gujarati debut in 1963 with the film Akhand Saubhagyavati.
She also acted in Punjabi films, the first of which was 1971’s Kankan De Ohle.
She also did a Kannada film, Sharavegada Saradara, in 1989. Asha made her television directorial debut in the early 1990s with the Gujarati serial Jyoti. She set up a production company called ‘Akruti’ and produced serials like ‘Palash Ke Phool’, ‘Baaje Payal’, ‘Kora Kagaz’ and the comedy series ‘Dal Mein Kaala’.

- Asha started performing in stage shows at a very young age. At one such event, Bimal Roy saw her and cast her in his film Maa (1952).
