Ashok Vaswani was born in 1961 in Mumbai, Maharashtra (age 62 as of 2023). After completing his schooling, he went to Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics, Mumbai, Maharashtra to pursue a bachelor’s degree in commerce, economics and accounting. He is a Chartered Accountant (CA) and Company Secretary (CS) with licenses from Stanford University Graduate School of Business. In his early days in Mumbai, Vaswani wanted to be a spin bowler. Despite losing his father at an early age and his mother wanting him to pursue a career in medicine, Vaswani chose a career in finance.

He then took on the role of Division Head in Turkey, Middle East and Africa in June 1999, overseeing the country and regional businesses. Ashok Vaswani subsequently served as CEO of Citigroup Asia Pacific and was a member of Citigroup’s Global Operating and Management Committees.
