Ashutosh Sharma’s father Ram Babu Sharma encouraged Ashutosh to join the Railway Cricket Club Academy after completing his schooling. As Sharma’s skills improved, he played Under-14 and Under-16 cricket for his region and eventually moved to Indore in 2016 with the help of former India cricketer Amay Khurasiya. In the same year, Ashutosh made his debut for the Madhya Pradesh youth team. 19 cricket team, he continued to showcase his athletic skills.
On January 12, 2018, Ashutosh Sharma made his Twenty20 cricket debut for the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association in the 2017-18 Divisional T20 League. He made his A-list debut on October 16, 2019, and represented Madhya Pradesh in the 2019-20 Vijay Hazare Trophy.
In 2022, he started working as a junior clerk in Railways and moved to Bhopal. In the same year, he participated in the Colonel CK Nayudu Cup competition. Although he did not get a chance to bat in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match against Manipur, he later performed well against the Arunachal Pradesh cricket team. In October 2023, Ashutosh Sharma participated in the Group C match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy held in Ranchi, India, and played against Arunachal Pradesh The team hit a half-century off 11 balls in the match.
Kings XI Punjab bought him for Rs. 20 Lakhs were sold during the 2024 IPL Auction. Ashutosh Sharma was appreciated for scoring 31 off 17 balls against Gujarat Titans; he played an influential role in the game.

- At the age of twelve, he met Sanjay Bangar, who was associated with the now-defunct Kochi franchise, at an IPL match in which Ashutosh was playing child. After being selected for Kings XI Punjab, Ashutosh later trained under the guidance of Bu Nagar.
