Aslam Thambi started playing kabaddi professionally in 2013 and although the sport was not as popular in Sri Lanka as in India, he continued to stick with it, leading the Lanka Lions in the tournament in Iran Winning a Bronze Medal at the 2016 Asian Junior Kabaddi Championship and gaining recognition on the global stage. In 2021, as the vice-captain of the Sri Lanka Kabaddi team, he won the Bangabandhu Cup after winning the Bangabandhu Cup Kabaddi Tournament in Dhaka.
