Video from the scene of the accident shows the carriage crumpled by the crash, surrounded by a crowd of people as men try to lift the injured through the windows of the passenger car.

The Egyptian Ministry of Health announced that at least 29 people were injured in Saturday’s collision.

Train derailments and collisions are common in the country, where the aging railway system is also plagued by poor management.

In recent years, the government has announced initiatives to improve railways.

In 2018, President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi said about 250 billion Egyptian pounds, or $8.13 billion, would be needed to properly rebuild the North African country’s dilapidated rail network.

Last month, a train hit a truck crossing railroad tracks in the Mediterranean province of Alexandria, killing two people.

In June, at least eight people were killed and dozens injured after a passenger train was hit by a freight train in eastern India.

Shocking images show one of the wrecked carriages hanging almost vertically in the air as worried onlookers gather nearby.

Rescuers and emergency teams rushed to the spot after the Kanchanjunga Express was hit from behind by a freight train.

The accident took place in Darjeeling district of West Bengal.

About 60 people were injured in the horrific accident, reports PTI news, but at least 25 of them did not suffer life-threatening injuries.

They were rushed to a nearby hospital as officials continue the rescue operation, ANI reported.

Several coaches of the express train reportedly derailed upon impact.

The death toll remained relatively small after the collision because the back of the passenger train was made up of a cargo van and a guard car.
