Atishi Marlena is an Indian politician associated with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). She has been an important part of the AAP since its inception. She is the AAP Lok Sabha candidate from East Delhi constituency in the 2019 general elections.

Atishi was born on 8 June 1981 in New Delhi (43 years old; as of 2024). Her zodiac sign is Gemini. She was educated at Springdales School, New Delhi. She received her BA (History) from St. Stephen’s College, New Delhi, in 2003, and her MA in History from the University of Oxford, UK, in 2003. She was a top student at St. Stephen’s College and received a Rhodes Scholarship upon graduation from St. Stephen’s College. Oxford University. Atishi joined Magdalen College, Oxford, in 2005 as a Rhodes Scholar.
After college, she moved to Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh to teach English and history. She has always been interested in social work and has worked with many NGOs in Bhopal. Atish is passionate about bringing a progressive education system to the village and helping children receive a better education. Atishi is interested in organic farming. She works extensively on and promotes organic farming. In Bhopal, she was introduced to many leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party.

Atishi Marlena was born into a Punjabi Rajput family. Her parents, Vijay Singh and Tripta Wahi, are professors at Delhi University. Her real name is Atish Singh. Her middle name is Marina; she uses it as her last name; because she doesn’t want to be judged by her last name or caste, but by the work she does. She is married to Pravin Singh.
political career
Atishi joined the Aam Admi Party (AAP) in 2013. She was a key figure in the formation of the AAP; she is a member of the AAP’s decision-making body. She was appointed as a member of the Political Affairs Committee, the executive body of AAP. In the same year, she was appointed AAP spokesperson.
In July 2015, Atishi was appointed as the education advisor to Delhi Deputy Prime Minister Manish Sisodia. She proved effective and was praised for her ideas and policies in reforming the education system. She used to visit schools and interact with parents and teachers to discuss how things could be improved.
In 2019, Atish was appointed to the Lok Sabha for the East Delhi constituency in the 2019 general elections. She was named AAP’s candidate for the 2019 general elections from the East Delhi constituency against former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir. She lost to Gautam Gambhir. In 2020, she won the Kalkaji seat in the Delhi Assembly elections, defeating BJP rival Dharambir Singh. On March 9, 2023, she was sworn in as a minister in the Delhi government. On June 29, 2023, she was given additional charge of Finance and Taxation Department, Government of Delhi. In September 2024, she became the eighth chief minister of Delhi after the resignation of former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal. She was later sworn in as the eighth Chief Minister of Delhi.
Soon after, she announced that she would not be sitting in Arvind Kejriwal’s seat in the office, but would be sitting next to him.

- In April 2018, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal sacked Atishi and seven others from their advisory posts. He said the Delhi government did not seek permission before creating new posts and appointing consultants without informing or sanctioning the Centre. AAP accused Anil Baijal of deliberately sacking Atishi and accused the Center of trying to silence women.
- In May 2019, Atishi accused Gautam Gambhir of distributing pamphlets about Atishi, which contained insulting remarks against her. The booklet also includes the names of Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia. During a press conference, she read the pamphlet and said Gautam Gambhir had the pamphlets distributed directly to people’s homes through newspapers. Gautam Gambhir denied the claims and challenged Kejriwal and Atish, saying he would withdraw from the race and retire from politics if the allegations against him were proven.

- In April 2024, she claimed that the BJP contacted her to join them, following which she received a show-cause notice from the Election Commission to support her claim. The BJP had earlier approached the Election Commission against her statement, calling it a “false claim”. On May 28, 2024, she was summoned by the Raus Avenue Court in Delhi in connection with the BJP defamation case. The court summoned her to appear in court on June 29, 2024.
- She hit the headlines in October 2024 when she was asked to vacate Bungalow No. 6, where Kejriwal lives as Delhi’s chief minister. She reportedly moved into the residence on October 7, 2024, without approval from the authorities. She was forced out of her residence by the MCD on October 9, 2024, and the house was subsequently sealed. The lieutenant governor said it was not illegal for Atish to move into the house, but it was also against the law because she did not follow the proper procedures to allocate a house to her. He also claimed that the house was not officially designated as the CM’s residence and could be handed over to any government official in Delhi.
