Aubrey Plaza Explains Why She 'Never' Wears Underwear (Even on Set!)

Aubrey Plaza’s rule of thumb when it comes to underwear is to skip wearing it altogether.

The actress (40) recently recorded a video with her sitting My old donkey costar, Maisy Stella, for Entertainment Weeklywhich led to a confession from Plaza about her love to become a commando. Here’s how it happened.

At one point in the clip, Plaza expresses some sort of discomfort in the way he’s sitting (“I’m burning,” he says pointedly). Wondering if it was the chair or her “old ass,” Plaza thought maybe the problem was that she was literally naked. “Maybe I should have worn underwear, but I never do. And then I screw up,” she said.

The Parks and recreation alum may have been joking about her lack of underwear (or not), but she’s still doubling down on her no-underwear philosophy.

“I feel like acting is the essence, you have to have your body in this weird state,” she said as she told Stella the “rules” she likes to follow on set.

“You never have to pee while you’re doing a scene. Even if you think a little bit, ‘Maybe I have to pee,’ just get it all out. Just get all the fluids out. Be like an empty vessel. And if you’re not wearing underwear, it can come out faster, so never wear underwear in your life.” she added.

Despite Plaza being serious about letting her bum breathe, her mindset hasn’t stopped her from incorporating underwear into her red carpet looks.

Example: On September 23, she attended the premiere of her second film in New York, Megalopolisdressed in a lacy Dolce & Gabbana look consisting of a see-through skirt that exposed her high-waisted panties.

This also wouldn’t be the first time Plaza has dared to bare in her outfits. Last February, she attended the 2023 SAG Awards in a bronze Michael Kors sequin gown with a criss-cross neckline that revealed quite a bit of her lower chest (just as her stylist Jessica Paster envisioned).

Plaza recently revisited the memorable look earlier this month — and what a big deal it was.

“My tits aren’t really like… If I had huge balls, I might be like, ‘Wow. I’ve got to keep these things…,'” Plaza said on Sirius XM The Howard Stern Show September 11.

“Is this different than any other dress I wear?” she asked. “I didn’t think that dress was just like, ‘Woo. Look at this. I’m really going to make a splash here with this underbust.'”
