Author Jim Murphy didn’t expect the overnight success of his 2020 self-help book, Internal excellencebut it became a viral hit thanks to Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver AJ Brown. The 27-year-old athlete went viral earlier this week when he was seen surfing the web Internal excellence on the sidelines of a Jan. 12 NFL game against the Green Bay Packers. By January 13, the book had jumped to the top of Amazon’s bestseller list. “It’s amazing and such a gift and an honor,” Murphy said in a Jan. 15 interview with the TODAY Show.Internal excellence is a guide that provides advice on how to overcome mental blocks and anxiety to find “a life full of purpose and fulfillment,” according to the book’s official synopsis.

Murphy, a performance coach and former minor league baseball player with the Chicago Cubs, wrote the book with and with athletes in mind, although the advice in Internal excellence they are applicable to everyone.

“This game is 90% mental and 10% physical for me,” Brown wrote in the post. “I bring it to every game and read it between every drive. I use it to refocus and lock in despite what may happen in the game, good or bad.”

When asked how Internal excellence translates to the competitiveness of sports, Murphy said the book is a nod to the power of teamwork. “There’s so much out of your control and the team aspect is such a big thing because we’re made for a relationship and that love is a relationship and there’s no fear in love,” Murphy said. “When you can play fearlessly and not worry about yourself, then anything is possible, for the Eagles and anybody.”
