In fond memory, Mrs. Avonlea Cierra Dixon Holtzclaw, 29, and her beloved children, Colton Elijah Holtzclaw, 7, and Madeline Kate Holtzclaw, 5, passed away together on July 16, 2023. Their lives touched many hearts and will be forever cherished.
A memorial service for Avonlee and her children will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at 2:00 PM at the Free Chapel Worship Center with interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. With Pastor Karen Smith officiating, the family will receive friends on Friday, July 21, 2023, from 4 to 8 PM at the funeral home. Avonlea was born on October 6, 1993 in Maryville, Tennessee to Richard Alan Dixon and Shannon Denise Lawson. She was employed at Keller Williams Lanier Partners & Topline Transaction Co. Avonlee was preceded in death by her grandfather, Clyde Lawson, and her uncles, Michael Lawson and Nickolas Jonathan Dixon.
Colton was born on June 25, 2016 and Madeline on June 11, 2018 in Gainesville, Georgia to parents Patrick Neil Holtzclaw and Avonlee Cierra Dixon Holtzclaw. They were preceded in death by their great-grandparents, Patrick and Elizabeth Hulsey, and great-grandfather, Clyde Lawson.
Colton and Madeline are survived by their father, Patrick Neil Holtzclaw of Dahlonega, their grandparents, Wade and Laura Hulsey Phillips, Charles and Lane Holtzclaw, Richard and Judy Dixon and Shannon and Eric Hubbard, their great-grandparents, Raymond and Jewell Holtzclaw and the Rev. Dickie and Vivian Dixon, their great-grandmother, Shirley Lawson, their aunts, Kalyssa Hubbard, Jennifer Hubbard, Faith Addison, Macie Addison and Savannah Addison, and their aunt and uncle, Cristy Phillips and Matt Edgecombe.

Avonlea Holtzclaw, a 29-year-old resident of the quaint north Georgia town of Dahlonega, had a deep connection to law enforcement as the devoted wife of Hall County Deputy Patrick Neil Holtzclaw. Tragically, her life was cut short when a fatal accident occurred on Sunday afternoon, July 15th.
As Avonlea tried to cross in a Ford Explorer, she was struck by a southbound car, engulfing both vehicles in flames. The devastating incident took place in Habersham County near Alta, and claimed the lives of their two beloved children: 6-year-old son Colt and 5-year-old daughter Maddie Kate.
After serving with distinction for eight years on the Lumpkin County Police Department, Holtzclaw recently became a valued member of the Hall County Law Enforcement Team. In the wake of this heartbreaking tragedy, Hall County Sheriff Gerald Couch expressed his unwavering support for Deputy Holtzclaw during the challenging days, weeks and months ahead.
Sheriff Couch solemnly stated, “The loss of an entire family leaves us speechless. There are no words that can adequately describe the grief the Holtzclaw family is going through right now. Our entire agency is heartbroken for them. We are grateful for the outpouring of support from our fellow law enforcement agencies, and we know that our community will want to offer their help as well. At this time, we kindly ask that you keep Deputy Holtzclaw in your prayers and give him the space to grieve in private.”

This weekend, the community will say a heartfelt goodbye to a mother and her two young children who tragically lost their lives in a car accident earlier this week in Habersham County.
Funeral services for Avonlea, Colton and Madison Holtzclaw are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, July 22, at the Free Chapel Worship Center in Gainesville. The Holtzclaw family, who lived in Dahlonega, are survived by their loving husband and father, Neil Holtzclaw, who serves as a deputy with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office. The ceremony is expected to attract a large gathering of police officers from the area, who will pay tribute to their fallen colleague and his precious family.
The tragic accident also claimed the lives of two others on that fateful Sunday, July 16. The Georgia State Patrol identified the driver as Mitchell Boggs, 58, of Marietta, and Seyhan Kilincci of Roswell was the other passenger. However, disputes have arisen over Boggs’ involvement in the incident, with his son claiming he was not behind the wheel at the time. Friends of the family say DNA evidence supports this claim and have expressed concern over harassment and death threats directed at them.
Habersham County Sheriff Joey Terrell’s comments regarding the speed of the Corvette Boggs was allegedly driving also sparked controversy. Although initial reports indicated the vehicle was traveling “in excess of 150 mph,” Terrell later clarified that this was only an estimate based on evidence from the wreckage. The Georgia State Patrol’s investigation, led by their Specialized Crash Reconstruction Team (SCRT), remains ongoing and no further details have been released at this time.
As the community mourns the loss of this young family, both the Georgia State Patrol and the Habersham County Coroner’s Office declined to release additional information, referring media inquiries to the State Patrol for updates.
