Awkward moment UFC stars mishear Bruce Buffer announcing winner as fans compare chaos to iconic dress optical illusion

BORED UFC fans gave a split verdict on the “freaking weird” confusion that reigned when Bruce Buffer announced the fight decision.

Viewers rated it as much more than a featherweight farce as Charles Jourdain was left WICKED to celebrate his victory over Sean Woodson.

One fan compared the accident to a viral optical illusion in 2015 in which some onlookers thought a black and blue dress was white or gold.

Both featherweights at the UFC 297 clash raised their fists as they awaited the verdict — then Jourdain punched the air with both hands after Buffer’s announcement, while Woodson looked down in frustration.

The duo then embraced – only for Buffer to clarify the decision to split up, leaving both of them with their mouths open in astonishment, and now a rejoicing Woodson.

Fans were divided on who to blame for the confusion – legendary announcer Buffer, referee Jerin Valel and two UFC fighters came under the microscope.

A few of the rated Buffers didn’t make Woodson’s win clear enough – which was ironic because the Yank looked like the clear winner.

Others believed that Valel got confused, unlike some spectators who felt that the fighters had misheard the verdict.

But there was general agreement with these social media posts: “That was such a bloody weird moment” … “What was that lol” … and “What a joke”.

One fan sparked the debate by writing: “Spotted all night Buffers mic was hard to understand.”

Another added: “LOL at Buffer. How do you make ‘Sean’ sound like ‘Charles’?”

But a third argued: “The judge raised the wrong hand.”

That opinion is backed up by these claims: “The ref was super confused” and “It was entirely up to the ref, not Buffer”.

One onlooker posted: “You could hear the last name but they both looked confused as the ref raised the wrong hand.”

Others insisted the fighters had “misheard” Buffer – but more seemed to think the referee had misunderstood.
