She married Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik on June 3, 2002, but their wedding remained a secret until Malik married Indian tennis player Sania Mirza in 2010. Initially, Shoaib denied marrying Ayesha. However, he later revealed that Ayesha had engaged in a scam with him. He said in an interview that in 2001, when he was playing cricket for the Pakistan cricket team in Sharjah, Ayesha called her and introduced her as a fan of Shoaib. They exchanged phone numbers and started talking to each other regularly. He said Ayesha sent him her photo. Shoaib also showed the photos to his parents.
He then asked Ayesha to meet his parents, but Ayesha kept refusing. Malik said she said they would only see each other at weddings. According to some reports, Ayesha met one of her cousins and introduced her cousin as Ayesha. Shoaib said in an interview that when he met Ayesha’s parents, he was shocked because the real Ayesha was completely different from her photos, and she also sent some photos of other girls claiming that they were her photo. According to Ayesha’s father, Ayesha and Shoaib had a relationship over the phone in June 2002. Malik said in an interview,
I was just 20 years old at the time and was under huge pressure to get married to Ayesha because her family had lost face in Hyderabad when the news spread that we were proposing. One morning in June 2002, I walked out of my house, went to a friend’s store, and made a call from there. I bought a nikahnama, signed it, thinking the girl I was going to marry was the one in the photo. “
In 2010, when Shoaib announced his marriage to Sania, Ayesha and her parents came out in the media to demand that Shoaib divorce his first wife Ayesha. On April 7, 2010, Malik divorced Ayesha and paid 150 million rupees as alimony.
