Babak Khorrameddin was born in Iran in 1974 (he died at the age of 47). He received his Master’s degree in Film from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Tehran, Iran. In 2000, he completed a one-year course in film production at the Iranian Youth Film Association in Tehran.

Profession

In 1999, he worked at the Film and Cultural Center “SHAFAGH”. He taught courses on acting and filmmaking, some of the topics he taught included:

  • Analysis of Krzysztof Kieslowski in the Cultural and Art Group of the Iranian Youth Film Association “ZAMIR”
  • Since 2014, he has taught film directing courses at the University of Science, Applied Arts, Culture and Film

He wrote the screenplays for several short films such as Door 13, Beautiful Mouth and Green Eyes, and Contrast.

Babak has written and directed several Iranian short films such as The Cut (2003), The Sun (2010), Beam of Light (2010) and To Be (2018). He is a member of Khaneh Cinema in Iran as a director.

On May 16, 2021, his parents stabbed him to death after anesthetizing him. Babak reportedly had an argument with his parents for not getting married, which angered his parents, and after a fierce argument, his parents brutally killed him. Later, his parents admitted their crimes in a local court. His father said,

As we had an argument, I injected him with anaesthetic this morning (Sunday) and then stabbed him to death. I then dismembered his body and threw it into the nearest trash can on the street along with my wife.”

His colleagues, friends and alumni shared the news of his death on his Instagram account, expressing their heartfelt condolences. One of his friends posted:

Babak is a filmmaker who I ran into on the cultural and arts circuit in London a few years ago. I heard he missed his family and had returned to Iran, but now I see this terrible news and I can’t believe it. It’s a terrible time.”
